I am using adobe illustrator to create graphics and there is also a lot of text with the graphics.
I am creating it for the web so need the smallest file size.
The graphics do not take space at all around 5 to 10 kb.
The text makes the file size large so I use the convert to outline option to reduce the size but it still makes the file size quite large
any suggestions or best practices when using text and saving in SVG format?
is there a particular font that is SVG optimized? because I have seen some SVG files with a lot of text that has a very small size and I’m not sure how they achieve it.

You want to EXPORT to SVG, not save as. Save as prioritizes keeping the file editable in Illustrator, exporting prioritizes optimizing the file for web. See details here:
