  • You could make a 3D null in view and shift-parent the layer to it once you’ve made it a 3D layer, which snaps the layer to the location of the null. Then unparent without shift.

  • The number is not revealed by a track matte. It is rotated in 3 dimensions from pointing straight at the viewer to flipping up and then bouncing at the end. In the beginning of the “reveal” the opacity goes from 0 to 100 within a few frames.
    This means you need to turn the layer into a 3D layer and rotate it around the X axis.

  • The Warp effect sounds like a candidate for this.

  • It looks like you still have a very large radius for the refine edge function. Smart radius can do that as well, so you should not use this for something that has a sharply defined edge.

    The good thing about using a layer mask is that you can manually paint black and white on the layer mask to fix it (show or hide layer content). So you can fix those pieces by painting. But you shouldn’t have this much to fix to begin with, so check that radius first. I would do a slightly softer edge, now it starts to look like you’ve cut it out with a knife. 1 pixel feather (or blurring of the layer mask) would be just about right.

    MsVOLT… never heard of it before. The first two letters are already suspect. I’ve edited font in a couple of different font design software (Fontographer, FontLab), the only problem that I’ve encountered has been conflicting font ID numbers.

    Did you try if it works in other software than InDesign or did this program mess the font up for every program? Such as MsWORD, or Illustrator, etc.

    I (somewhat preconceivedly) expect MsVOLT to be the issue, not InDesign.

  • If that happened, the probable explanation is that AE used the last character settings that you had used when you created the new text frame, so the font, color. etc. were already set in the text box, so it appeared to duplicate those settings when it really just added the text content.

  • It’s not fully 3D, but you can connect 3D nulls with the beam effect by getting the 2D coordinates of the nulls for the beam ends. The line itself won’t be 3D.

    The 2D coordinates of the 3D null “Null 1”:

    L = thisComp.layer("Null 1");
    L.toComp(L.anchorPoint)

    So you would put that for the beam start coordinate and another null for the beam end.

    You’ll need as many beam effects as you have lines to draw.

  • The location of the layer in 3D camera space can be completely different from it’s location in 2D screen space. If you turn on four views so you can see the scene from multiple angles, you should be able to tell where your plane actually is in relation to the camera.
