  • After effects 3D layer turn black (screen shot included)

Posted by Rachel Tsou on January 10, 2019 at 3:42 am

I was doing a test in after effects but every times i turned a shape layer into 3D, everything turn black

    – the camera is set to Active Camera
    – A light is created with its default setting shine on the 3D Layer
    – The 3D Layer, which is a rectangle extruded into a box, was perfectly coloured before the layer become 3D
    – Using Raytrace 3D mode

Not sure what the problem is, seems like some people ran into this issue before without coming up with a solution
    please send help!

Just as guess, but try resetting your Camera transformation to it’s defaults.

If that doesn’t do it, check the Z settings for both the camera & Shape layer & adjust accordingly.

The location of the layer in 3D camera space can be completely different from it’s location in 2D screen space. If you turn on four views so you can see the scene from multiple angles, you should be able to tell where your plane actually is in relation to the camera.
