Photoshop for sure, given only those two options.

    A) Which version of Illustrator do you have?

    B) How do you generate the PDF?

Regardless of the answer to the above:

    – The “save as” is the most straightforward way to do it.

    – I don’t know any way to accidentally shrink the document. Illustrator saves the PDF document at the size it is. I would check that you have the document settings how you think they are (inches/cm/points/pixels).

    – The double crop marks are probably “Japanese” style cropmarks, select “roman” instead.

Change the Colorization Method to “Tints and Shades” instead on “None”. Then the color will change with the stroke color setting.

In Illustrator you have layers and then you have sublayers. So you can have your numbers all on the same layer, but on separate sublayers. And then you can lock all the sublayers but the one you want to manipulate. For ease of navigation you can open and close the layer view to only show the layers, not the sublayers.

I guess you could do a gradient ramp, add a stretched fractal noise onto it, animate the noise, spherize and use the result as a track matte to make a white-to-transparent layer.

  • That effect looks like you’re driving on the surface of a small sphere, and that would be my approach. The 3D layers at the “surface” of the sphere, perpendicular to it, would be facing the camera and would be parented to a master 3D null at the center point of the sphere. The camera would be looking at the layers on the top surface of the sphere which would rotate (by rotating the master null) to produce forward motion. If you need a ground plane, that’s a bit tricky without a 3D effect. Perhaps it could be done with CC Sphere — if you can figure out how to make it interact believably with the 3D planes. Or maybe a set of flat planes along the surface would do it?

Since you are using ray-traced 3D, you should check the dof settings under Comp settings>advanced>Ray-traced 3D options…

Set the hole masks to Subtract. May have to ensure they are after the Add masks in the stack. I’m surprised that doesn’t happen automatically when you convert the text.

  • How about filling the sides with black or green and keying them out?

Oh, I see. You want to freeze the Particular layer at one point and have it continue from that point on as a 2D layer in 3D space.

It would only match up if the 3D camera was in the same relation to the 3D plane as when the camera was created. Hence, if you have a point in the animation where the camera is in its original position, you could parent the layer to the camera there, move to the “cut” position and unparent it. Or, if no such point in time exists, you could create a new camera with same settings, parent the 3D plane to it and then move the new camera to the “cut” position coordinates or your current camera and unparent the layer and delete the extra camera. Per my logic that would do it.
