(Ignore the “16-bit might give you a” semi-sentence. There’s no edit button so I can’t delete it. You can’t load a 16-bit image as a displacement map.)

    Well, you get the idea.

I don’t get any edit opportunity, even that 10-15 minute window. So I can’t fix anything if I make a mistake?

I just posted a half a sentence which

A pretty convincing effect can be achieved by creating a displacement map for the water surface with clouds, saving it, then applying the distort/glass (from effect library) to the layer that you want to look like water, loading your custom displacement map into it.

To create the displacement map, fill a layer with Clouds effect in black and white, then distort it in perspective like a ground plane. Save this. 16-bit might give you a

The displacement map would look something like this (gray = no displacement, black = negative, white = positive direction):

    They seem to wobble.

I suspect this is the codex used to output which tries to save in file size by duplicating image information across frames. Unsuccessfully in this case.

It looks like there is virtually no shadow in the image.

Do you have Element version 1 or 2?

In V1, you have Ambient occlusion and the combination of diffuse, specular and ambient lighting to play with, as well as the environment settings as well as using AE lights instead of just the environament.

In V2, you also have real cast shadows, either shadow mapping (for parallel and spot lights) and ray-traced shadows that work for point lights as well.

Plus you have the Multipass mixer where you can adjust the balance, at least in V2, don’t remember if it existed in V1, has been a while since I used it.

If those don’t suffice, you can add a curves or other color or contrast adjustments on the layer to push the contrast even further.

Something like this. Got the seam to deal with and other details, but this was my basic idea.

  • Best strategy is to give it to a printer and tell him what you need.

Imposition is done with Acrobat using commercial plugins like QuiteImposing, you can’t do it in InDesign.

Although, if you have Acrobat, you can achieve something like this in a complicated manner and partially manually. I can try and explain it if you’re desperate.

If there was supposed to be an image attached, I don’t see it.

The likely answer to your question is using the path selection tool (black arrow after the type tool) to select and move the points.
