May 31, 2006 at 6:36 am in reply to: COW Tutorials: After Effects Horror Text on the Wall – Part 1*Haha*! Wuhu! A new tutorial! Great ending by the way, I liked it. I haven’t really learned something, except maybe how you treated those keyframes, but my guess is you’ll be using a displacement map on the next tutorial. Maybe blending modes too? Can’t wait!
Once again; excellent tutorial.

For the eyes thing, simply draw a mask over the eyes of the person on your video footage and animate it. Play with the feather, use the eyedropper of the Solid to match the subject’s eye…etc…nothing difficult. You could track it too.

Maybe it was all done in 3D. You’d be stuned how 3D can be realistic today. I’ve watched a film in IMAX not a long time ago, a films about animals in the jungle, and if I haven’t knew it was all made in 3D, never I would of guessed.
So…maybe, maybe not 😉

Yes Serge, good idea. You could also draw a mask at the bottom of the ball, then change Add to Substract, then feather it. I do this all the time when I want to give the perspection that my objects are on grass.
Hope that helped.

Here is the best free 3D models website on the web.
Since your ball looks bad, just get some here, or even here. All in the Sports section.
Changed the topic title so in the future, people will find easily what you were asking for in the COW Archives.
Check here too.
Keep me alerted if you have problems with your ball.

Sorry if it’s about 5 Mo. Took me an hour to do. I took a little grass sample from Particle Illusion (with Alpha, TGA sequence), took it back into AE, made a big grass square with it (thx Mylenium), made a Null Layer (turned on the 3D Switch), parented it with the grass square, putted a camera, and used the Null as the controller for my soccer ball 3D object. Assigned the Set 1 to the Null, and made Set 2 the soccer ball itself, and played with rotations and Z position. If you have 6.5, e-mail me, I could send you my project file.
Hope that helped.

[Chris Smith] “white brush onto black to create the map.”
Oh, I get it! My paint brush mov was with an Alpha. I just added a black Solid, precomped it, assigned it and it worked out perfectly. Didn’t know Displacement Map didn’t worked with Alpha channels.
Thx Chris.
