Hi,
1) To unlock the files, just chose them in finder and “get infor” (Apple ‘i’), there will be a function for you to unlock them. This should allow you to perform all the necessary.
2) No real solution for timecode but they do appear outside the TV safe area so technically it should not appear on your conventional TV screen. Alternatively, you can do a quick mask on the visuals.

Not too sure about the details to your problem but here are a few suggestions that might be of help:
1. Check if the deck or camera that using plays the tape fine on playback mode. (if you recorded on long play, then things will get a little complicated)
2. Log and Capture – set capture device to non-controlable and capture settings to that which is revelant to the tape format.
3. press play on the deck and hit record now on FCP. capture the whole tape into your system.Hope that it helps. Btw, editing for tmr simply don’t work, regardless of how little or much you have to do.
