    hey there

I am wanting to create a spotlight effect that can move around the frame and make visible only that which is in the oval (similar to the opening of james bond films). i have tried using the oval shape and using a multiply composite mode but when i move the oval around the video underneath is exposed around the edges when i move the oval layer.

is there a way to do this that has an X.Y position in the controls tab independent of the XY in the motion tab

    thanks for any suggestions

    Hi,

you might want to try the facelight plugin from https://www.haiku.com.au/
tweaking the values on the tabs might help to to achieve your desired results.
    give it a go!

unfortunately the facelight plugin didnt do the job as it only creates a highlight rather than a cutout to view the layer below. it does have the XY controls i was after however. I know this effect must be simple to achieve in FCP, my brain is in freeze mode!

I’ve seen a tutorial to do this. It was prbably here on the Cow. I don’t remember if it was using FCP or AE. Try searching the Cow tutorials.
