When you have ‘self contained’ turned off, Final Cut will make a reference file rather than a complete movie file. When you export a ref file, it has it’s own audio but not it’s own video, hence the audio only appearing on Youtube.

If you google ‘Youtube encode settings’ you should be able to find all the required export settings to upload to Youtube. You’ll be able export a Youtube friendly file straight from FCP. Do this by ‘right-click highlighting’ your sequence in the project window, selecting Export/Using Quicktime conversion and then matching your export settings to the Youtube settings.

Hi Balazs, if I’m understanding you right then another solution might be to…

Import your image sequence into FCP, creating a new sequence with the matching codec/size/etc. Then add the new audio to those sequences, and then send all those sequences straight to Compressor (highlight sequences, right click, send to, compressor).

Compressor will now encode the merge file for you, just make sure that you have the Audio enabled on your settings.

    No double rendering!

  • Go to your sequence settings in the menu. This will show you the details of your currently displayed sequence.

Alternatively you can see the sequence details in your project window (top left window with all sequences, media, etc.) by scrolling to the right.

Shane’s comment above will then very quickly help you configure your footage to the desired size and ratio.

  • Hey Ana looks like your message may have been cut off?

  • firstly, if you don’t have a pressing timeline and can endure another long render, find the media manager in FCP and clear your renders.

You can also use the Media Manager to consolidate a project onto a new location (ie. new folder or whole new drive). With this, it will carry across only the used media.

I’d always as a rule leave the autosave vault well alone. The file sizes are small and wouldn’t free up enough to make a huge difference.

I’d edit in a 720/480 sequence. That way you can re-position your HD footage knowing what it will ultimately look like in the frame. Plus you won’t be stretching (and then down-scaling) your smaller footage.

Select clip, go to ‘Modify’ menu and untick ‘Stereo Pair’. Did that work?
