  • [Pieter Viljoen] “If Premiere will allow me to switch between source and record in my timeline I’d like it even more.”

I’m curious about what you mean here…do you mean you’d like the timeline to show the contents of the source monitor when that has received focus in the application? Does Avid offer this, and if so, could you tell me what that does for you (Serious question…I’m a new Premiere convert, and strongly considering MC7 as my secondary option)?

  • What I’m saying makes sense, right? No frames from before the midpoint get carried to the other side? I just want to make sure I’m not crazy.

  • That doesn’t make sense to me with a dip to black, though….the clip media doesn’t pass the transition point, unlike a dissolve. So, there would be no repeated frames, correct? If I do have handles, there will be no media from the handles displayed, because the black point occurs at the end of the clip, right?

Do you use the built-in FCP7 in Premiere, or have you built your own?

That was a thought that I had, but E in particular is used by “extend edit,” which is something I can’t give up. I wish I could get a visual representation of what keys were in use.

You have to use the “IMAGE UPLOAD” button to get your image to show on the forums.

I’m guessing that your problem is actually just a result of viewing the video in HD and SD. Vimeo and youtube both do multiple encodes of your video for different devices. That’d explain why it looks differently at different moments. Try experimenting with the frame size options when viewing in youtube.

SAME. But let’s keep that a secret…wouldn’t want to endanger my next raise!

Same as FCP7! alt/option and arrow key!

  • True…I’ll most likely do that for the time being, especially if I’m going to prores. I just don’t like the whole “only one flavor of FCP can be open at once” thing.

  • Excellent advice, Jeremy. Thanks so much. As much time as I try to devote to getting up to expert level on all my NLEs, I find I still miss little things like this.

I still find it frustrating that the import dialogue doesn’t work, but I may now just switch to this other method.
