Dip to black btwn clips (at media end) acting funny
Hi All,
My apologies if I end up posting here daily for a while. Trying hard to make the switch!I’m finding myself unable to drop a “Dip To Black” transition between clips that don’t have additional media beyond cuts. It seems to me that DTB shouldn’t need additional media (like a Cross Dissolve would).
Funny behavior: My left clip has additional media, but my right does not. Premiere will allow me to drop the DTB on my right clip, and will extend the left clip, so that the transition begins at the start of the right clip, with the left clip fading, hitting black some 30 frames in, then fading up on the right clip.
I suppose I can just ripple my left clip back, but…doesn’t this seem strange? Am I missing something?

That is normal behaviour. Every transition needs handles if it one clip does not have handles it will place itself off centre.
If there are no handles at all it will repeat frames.
Workaround is to use opacity keyframes.———————————————–

That doesn’t make sense to me with a dip to black, though….the clip media doesn’t pass the transition point, unlike a dissolve. So, there would be no repeated frames, correct? If I do have handles, there will be no media from the handles displayed, because the black point occurs at the end of the clip, right?

What I’m saying makes sense, right? No frames from before the midpoint get carried to the other side? I just want to make sure I’m not crazy.
