Wow, didn’t even think of using submixes for that! I’m more used to the ProTools world for routing stuff like this, but Premiere’s routing has always confused me.

What I did was create submixes for VO/Dx and NATS, which are routed/panned to the proper outputs. Then I made my mono VO and NAT tracks, routed them to 1/2 with no pan, but also used sends to route them to the submixes. For the Stereo things (music and FX), I just made those standard tracks, using their Output Assignments to both go to 1/2 and 5/6 or 7/8, where appropriate.

Thanks for the help! Much appreciated!

  • There IS a method to extract the package, edit a line of text, re-compress and then install. But it’s not worth it–this doesn’t fix anything. Seems like there is a problem with the CUDA driver itself.

  • “I am not using CUDA but it started happening again today with OpenCL. Which I heard it wasn’t supposed to. ”

I know that for me (and from what I can tell, most other people), it happens when either GPU option is enabled as long as the CUDA drivers are installed.

  • Understood. I’m testing some Gh4 footage upon which there will be a ton of roto and green-screen work. So, just seeing if the keys we can pull are better done when there is some increased interpolated chrominance data. If it were a simple cut and color, I’d be in full agreement. Just want to see how AE/Nuke handle things.

Most likely I’ll just end up going with HQ.

  • Just want to add my two cents. I’ve been dealing with this problem on a Late 2013 15″ MbPro (with the 750M GPU). I’ve been actively (and angrily, sometimes too rudely, sorry Peter!) posting about this on a really long forum at Adobe:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/7222460#7222460

    Important notes:
    – The repair program that is being touted as a solution is most likely unrelated to our problem. The repair appears to be for a hardware failure that has been around since 2011. Apple is seemingly only posting it now because of a recent class-action lawsuit.
    – I have yet to see a single person for whom a hardware repair has provided the solution.
    – To the contrary, it appears that the bugs are made more severe in 10.9 and 10.10, indicating a driver/software issue.
    – Adobe’s techs seem to be struggling to replicate the bug. I’ve offered (and continue to offer) to communicate directly with them to help.
    – This is not a keystroke or order-of-launching type bug. It can’t be simplified in that fashion.

I’d go down to the Apple store and shout, telling them I’ve bought a $3000 paperweight that I’m embarrassed to use in front of clients. But it won’t do any good. And that’s the reason why my next machine won’t be an Apple.

  • Oh wow, that’s really bizarre…I wish the error handling was a bit more clear.

    Thanks, though, Todd.

Jason…that’s a pretty significant mischaracterization of what’s going on, here.

I’m not new to Premiere. 50% of my work is in FCP 7 on a live TV network. The other half is all in Premiere. For anything that doesn’t require a specific NLE, I use Premiere.

I’m the first to admit that FCP 7 is half-broken at this point. The bugs make it unworkable outside of a rigid environment, and performance is terrible. But…bugs are different from workflow. It’d be foolish to say that Premiere is anywhere near to 7 in terms of workflow. I have a spreadsheet full of things that aren’t only different, but are entirely slower.

I’d imagine Adobe developers would (privately, perhaps) acknowledge this. It’s just less mature than 7 was. A great example–the keyboard shortcut manager in FCP7 is so distantly ahead of Premiere’s. Premiere only added the ability to have multiple shortcuts for things recently. It’s hard to find things in FCP7 for which you can’t create a shortcut–Premiere is littered with these things. In Premiere, sometimes shortcuts don’t work when different windows are active.

-Shift-select doesn’t select consecutive items (acknowledged as a weakness by an Adobe tech to me, recently)
-It’s not possible to “select all” on specific tracks only
    -No spring-loaded tools.
-No snapping whilst holding the mouse down to have it turn back off after letting go.
-Project Manager STILL hardly works. It’s too buggy to use, currently, when transcoding footage.
-When you perform an edit command and then undo, Premiere deselects your previous selection and moves the playhead back to where it was a step before–this means that when I’m experimenting, I have to find my edit point multiple times.
    – A HUGE omission for me–no quick way to alter the blend mode of a clip–neither from the timeline nor with a keyboard shortcut.

These aren’t mere differences–they’re weaknesses. These things are pretty basic, and just simply faster in 7. Adobe will close the loop on many of them–but for the time being, the edges are rough, and it’s annoying. I work a lot of hours in a day, and when I have to drill down two levels to see the blend mode of every clip? That sucks.

Sorry for the rant…I see people say this stuff all the time in the face of criticism aimed at Adobe. The network I work for is switching to Premiere soon, and though I can fly in it–I know there will be times when building timelines are just going to take a lot longer. I can’t see why it’s not ok to acknowledge that and push back a bit.

Sadly, I think Adobe has removed this feature in the latest update. I have a lot of use for it, so I’m pretty frustrated.

Sigh…I’m getting pretty tired of all the things that aren’t quite as smooth as FCP7…
