    Hi all,
    My client is asking for the following track breakdown on a prores file:

    CH1 Full Mix Stereo L
    CH2 Full Mix Stereo R
    CH3 VO & Dialog (Discrete Audio)
    CH4 NAT SOUND
    CH5 Stereo EFX L
    CH6 Stereo EFX R
    CH7 Stereo Music L
    CH8 Stereo Music R

    I have 2 channels of VO and 2 channels of NAT sound that both need to be mixed to mono. If my output were stereo, I would just pan them center. In this circumstance, however, I need both VO channels panned left, and both NAT channels panned right, to get them to 3 and 4 (correct?). BUT–if I do VO -> 1,2 + 3,4, panning them left will mess up my stereo 1,2 channels.

    Is my only recourse to work with everything panned center, export a stereo mixdown, and reimport it and place it back into my sequence? And then I’d have to make reroute everything so that nothing goes to 1,2 except for my mixed-down audio?

    Create a multichannel sequence with relevant sub mixes e.g. Mono VO/Dx Mono Nats Stereo FX Stereo Music

    Route time line tracks direct to relevant sub mix

    Route submix outputs (e.g. DX to A3, nats to A4)

    When exporting make it a multichannel output.

    Once your sequence is working the way you want it you can use it as a template. Advantage is you can have compressor on DX etc.

    I do this all the time with A1&2=mix and 3 x stereo splits for DX/FX/MX stems. Easier than Avid (which has no submixes but does have a multichannel mixdown option).

    Wow, didn’t even think of using submixes for that! I’m more used to the ProTools world for routing stuff like this, but Premiere’s routing has always confused me.

    What I did was create submixes for VO/Dx and NATS, which are routed/panned to the proper outputs. Then I made my mono VO and NAT tracks, routed them to 1/2 with no pan, but also used sends to route them to the submixes. For the Stereo things (music and FX), I just made those standard tracks, using their Output Assignments to both go to 1/2 and 5/6 or 7/8, where appropriate.
