That’s been our problem. It’s great that you can “log” the shots and give the clip a title, but the Clip Name under Information does not get modified. And when importing we don’t get any of the Logging information. — And yes, I am saving after making changes. —

In Preferences, we have checked “Add clip title”. Still it does not transfer.

Wish we could find a resolution.

I checked the user manual for the camera (available online from Sony’s website) and in section “6-1-2 File Operation Restrictions” it talks about what operations are allowed. There are a lot of footnotes so it can be a little confusing.

One suggestion; in order to save, you need to click on the disc icon to highlight it, then try going to File>save.

Not sure that’s much help to you.

Avid “Qualifies” each computer that they support. You can install on others, but they won’t “qualify” every computer. The biggest thing when looking at the computers that Avid qualifies is not so much the processor, but all the other hardware (graphics card, etc.) and operating system.

Also, don’t upgrade the Mac OS until Avid releases a new version for the new OS.whatever release. The Mac OS and Avid version must work together.

Since the 2.8 is new, they probably haven’t run it through tests.

If it were me, I would buy the new (2.8GHz) computer and not the slower. If you look at the Avid System Requirements, they don’t even list the 2.53GHz you mention–just the 2.5

Jeremy, yes I mentioned some strange frame rates because the FPS Tags were all over the place — as well as the Playing FPS. Some Tags were 23.97, some 23.98. Nothing was 29.97, which is what the capture setting were set to.

Thanks for all your input on this topic. I have marked this up to just a strange phenomenon –hopefully one that will not repeat itself.

No Monica, I used the separate program that came with the FCP suite, Compressor and made new version of the clips. This worked well except for one long clip – sync would slip. I had to break it down into sections in QT and make shorter clips.

I would have preferred to recapture all the footage. That would have saved time, but the client took the tapes with him.

I too am unclear. I don’t understand how a clip that plays in QT as 23.98fps will appear in FCP as 29.97.

In my case, all the clips I captured were bad. After the client left (with his tapes) I found the problem, and my work-around. I have since captured many clips and all are fine (but I’m checking them more often -just in case).

I don’t think the deck is faulty based on the fact that I am using the same deck and getting perfect results. I would suggest – reboot, and make a test recording.

Walter, I think you could change that to “Don’t know how many hundreds of folks…” I see this all the time.

One wish for FCP…before you can capture any media, you must save the project. Then when you do capture without naming first, it would at least give it the project name.

Upon further investigation, here is what I have found. When playing the clips in QT, info shows that the frame rate is 23.97. However, when imported into FCP, the clip info shows frame rate at 29.97, which can’t be changed.

When I export a clip using QT (animation codec, current frame rate, 720×480) the resulting clip is still 24fps, appears in FCP as 29.97, but will play fine in FCP. ****this is my work around****

I have tried making a new project with DV 29.98 settings. The problem still exists.

Yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest AJA software — and uninstalled again, not using AJA for playback. Same issue.

I have NOT uninstalled the firmware (not sure how to do that).

My work around has been to create new clips by either Export from QT, or using Compressor. I simply duplicated the settings of the original clips (which if you remember play fine in QT) and made new files.

I also tried starting a new Project. Imported the clips into that project. When played in the Viewer, same issue. Import the new copies and they play fine.
