Audio Drift – black at end of clip
Here is a weird one.
Captured BetaSP footage via AJA IO into FCP 6.0.4.
While playing back the clips, audio immediately starts to drift. Towards the end of the clip, video goes to black and audio continues. The same is true for clips 19 seconds long or 3 minutes long (the black is proportional to the length of the clip).
Here’s the weird thing. The QT clips play fine outside of FCP — they are in sync in the QT player. Inside FCP the audio drifts and is out of sync. If I import these same clips back into FCP, the same problem continues. If I open in QT and Export using same settings (basically making a copy), the exported version plays fine in FCP.
I have uninstalled the AJA IO software. Trashed my FCP preference using FCP Rescue 6. Restarted. Launced FCP, changed Playback Control;Frame Offset to 0. Still have same issue.

Does your sequence match your captured settings? Sounds like it doesn’t.

Jeremy, this is happening in the Viewer window. I didn’t even get to making a sequence yet.

What versions of everything are you on and what easy setup did you use? What frame rate is your timeline and what frame rate is your footage?

The problem has nothing to do with the sequence. The clips played in the Viewer show the problem. But, it was NTSC DV 48kHz.
I’m not in front of that computer so forgive me for some details.
OS 10.5. (.4 i think – not the latest)
FCP 6.0.4
QT 7.4.?Won’t be able to give exact details until tonight – I appreciate your help with this.

I can only trust you on that.
Did you use an easy setup when you captured with the io? Do you have multiple firewire devices connected to your machine along with the io?

Capture setting on IO was Component Betacam to DV 48kHz.
IO is only Firewire device. HDD is via eSATA.

Have you uninstal and installed the latest io driver from AJA that includes the firmware update?

Yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest AJA software — and uninstalled again, not using AJA for playback. Same issue.
I have NOT uninstalled the firmware (not sure how to do that).
My work around has been to create new clips by either Export from QT, or using Compressor. I simply duplicated the settings of the original clips (which if you remember play fine in QT) and made new files.
I also tried starting a new Project. Imported the clips into that project. When played in the Viewer, same issue. Import the new copies and they play fine.
