August 20, 2013 at 4:26 am in reply to: Creating more space between in and out Fields in Node viewerSascha, don’t be discouraged from asking questions. We all start somewhere. And you should have the opportunity to get different perspectives as you learn things. The only thing I would say, and the point I think others have tried to make, is that many of your single question posts deal with issues that are either covered in the manual, or have already been asked many times in this very forum, or most likely both.
I think it would behoove you, as it behooves us all, to first check the manual, then do a search on the forum, or in google, then ask the question here.
Unfortunately, and you see this in all forums, many people take the option of just posting questions on a forum over doing a little bit of work to try to find the answer themselves first. I know personally, everything I’ve had to work hard to discover on my own has become engrained in my brain, in a way that the answers that were just given to me have not. In fact those answers tend to be forgotten just as quickly as they were gotten. There is real value in figuring it out. And then when you hit a wall on that trek to figuring it out, there is real value in inquiring amongst your peers.
One other thing I would say is that many of your questions, in fact maybe all of the ones I’ve seen, would be far better suited to the DaVinci Basic forum. I don’t think you’d get as much or any push back on these questions there. For whatever that is worth.
Again not trying to criticize, just offering what I hope is helpful guidance. Feel free to disregard it.
Cheers.

Just so you know, the MacPro 3,1s never work all that great with resolve. Your CPU will probably be under performing your GPU.

I’ll be blunt. These are computer monitors. They are fine for driving computer display. As in displays on which you are not making critical evaluations of a video image. If you want to be a “colorist” and you want to grade videos, you MUST HAVE a video display onto which you will evaluate your videos. No computer monitor will ever be up to the task, as it’s not what they were designed to do. Some can be made to function with a lot of other gear, and more importantly know-how… But there is no real short cut here. You want to be in business grading videos. Get a reference video display.

Rob when you’re doing this all you’re really testing is the drive and CPU/bus performance. It’s not really evaluating what the gpu is doing.

There is a non-user readable database file on the system that hosts the database. The main advantage is the ability to share the same database across multiple systems.

Using the appropriate LUT can get you more mathematically close. But “appropriate” is the key word there. Additionally LUTs can be trick and limiting in what they allow you to do before and after they are applied.
LUTs generally speaking are tools specifically crafted for a specific use. But they’re far too frequently misused.
As to the issue with the specific LUT from your DP. You may try using different techniques to get better transforms out of slog. Or use a LUT if you feel confident in what it’s doing. But don’t just start throwing random LUTs on in the hopes one of them sticks. As in, a lut meant for slog2 footage applied to slog 1.
I’m not sure how you’re “stretching your contrast”, dropping lift and raising gain is not the way to delog an image. If you’re not already you may want to try using curves.

Are you starting resolve while synapse is running? I believe you need to have just resolve run, not resolve and synapse. You may need to reset the elements as your panels. Start resolve, select none for panel, quit resolve, stay out of synapse, then restart resolve, reselect the elements, quit resolve, then reopen resolve. Hopefully they work then.
