We use a firewire to SCSI adapter: https://store.hotwire-digital.com/products.php?product=Ratoc-SCSI-to-FireWire-converter-kit#

might be more than you’d like to spend. But it works well.

Best way is hardware, also the fastest. Find a post house with an Alchemist PhC HD.

Slower less good looking way is software. Drop it in compressor and enable best quality motion compensated conversion. This will introduce a lot of problems, but will kinda look okay if you don’t watch too closely. It’s sllllloooooowwwwwwww, but free. Slow as in 20-30:1 ratio.

Could it be that the Canon 7Ds HDMI uses HDCP, there by preventing the intensity from viewing and capturing the footage?

Anything that resamples the audio will kill Doby-E. There is no way to keep the dolby-e intact when you are capturing. You need to decode it out to discreet tracks and then re-encode it to dolby-e when you are done.

Actually just capturing it into FCP, resamples the audio… so the Dolby-E data is lost…. it will no longer be recognized by a Dolby decoder… so the short answer is no, you can’t do this.

The saphire plugs have a couple that work for this. But you might be happy with the MUCH cheaper CGM filters, specifically one called Luma Color Dissole.

    [CharlieX2] “And it’s probably upwards of $20,000”

I think you meant “COSTS” since it’s certainly not worth it 🙂 Althought it does now support embedded SDI audio.
