  • You can make a droplet for XDCam VBR, but not CBR. My workaround right now is to go into FCP, select all from the folder of clips and do a batch export as XDCam CBR. Working fine this way…(but a droplet would be mighty dandy, too!)

March 13, 2010 at 1:49 am in reply to: Best/latest BluRay burner for MAC PRO?

I disconnected my original DVD SuperDrive, plugged this LG into the main cable (the one that had been going to the DVD SuperDrive), and when i hit the eject button the LG Blu Ray burner TRIES to open the door but it won’t go. So apparently the computer is seeing the drive, but it’s the door that won’t work. I’ll take it back and get the MCE or Pioneer via internet.

    Thanks again!

I called LG tech support, and the guy was not much help. He kept telling me to “push the button” on the front of the (internal) blu ray burner to open the tray… Then he concluded that maybe the LG CH08 internal is not for Macs.

So maybe i need to go to an external? I don’t really care, but seems like an internal should work as well, but the portability of an external would be nice. On this thread it looks like the LaCie, Pioneer, and Buffalo are well liked.

You’ve obviously already shot your footage, but for future reference you might want to buy/rent “Powaqqatsi”. Ya, it’s 22 years old now, but it still had some pretty neat visuals. One thing in particular was the use of a locked off shot in a downtown situation. Let it run for quite awhile, then they would dissolve in a few people walking by in slo-mo, dissolve in others in super fast mo, etc. In short, buildings remain “solid”, while ghostly people fly through the scene in fast or slow speeds depending on your preference. Anyway, always depending on your music track, it gives quite a different feel to a city scene.

If you happened to grab any long static shots, you might be able to play around with that a bit. Other than that, maybe you got some really long/compressed shots? That would usually hide the fact that there weren’t tons of people there, and would compress whomever was there to appear much closer together. Close-ups of feet walking, close-ups of cars driving by, street lights changing color, etc. Let us know how it came out!

I ended up getting the LG CH08, installed it, bought a few 25GB discs, but my Mac doesn’t know the burner is even there. The install disc only has PC stuff on it, but usually Mac will read new toys without a hitch. I called LG tech support, and after 20 minutes on hold they told me that the “computer department closed at 6 (EST)”, so i’ll try tomorrow, but in the meantime thought i would ask my favorite smarty pants folks if they anything about this drive specifically or this problem in general…

    Thanks again!

After spending the morning reading archival posts (hard drives vs. DLT vs. Blu Ray), i’ve decided to go buy a blu ray burner. The only one i can even find locally is the LG BH10LS30 at Best Buy for $180, which sounds pretty good. At SuperMediaStore, there appears to be a WIDE range of prices for Blu Ray media – from $2 a disc up to about $13. Any idea why such a range?

maybe i’ll try that next. i got all the files copied from it via Media Manager yesterday, and it seems to have worked fine. since then, i reformatted the drive and did a few short tests, and it seems to be working normally now.

i don’t yet have Disk Warrior, but i do have Tech Tools…do you know if there is a utility in there that will (or, would have) do something like Disk Warrior?

    Thanks again!
