  • Hey, I’ve been making things look filmic since 2000, working with progressive. I always start from that point, and never have to deal with interlaced, so as to whether this will mess up your timeline or not, I don’t know. Whatever the case, turning fields off will make your transitions/effects/text… whatever you render, have that stuttering effect of film, rather than the silk of video. So, everyone’s right, turn of fields, and you’ll have what you’re looking for on the renders. Hope the frame rate and everything is compatible for you.

Wonderful, thank you… I shall now try to track down a Hi8 to feed the footage into the DVX.

    Thanks again!

Cool, great to hear. That’s around what this is turning out to be. It’s online with the HD, like you do, and I’ll be doing pretty much everything but map graphics, composing (though certainly music selection for them to use as guides), and final narration writing.

I know what it’s like to edit day and night for a tight deadline. Did that once for an entire doc. Never again (oh, jinx).

    Thanks guys!

Yeah, that’s why they pay us the big bucks… 😉 Don’t imagine whoever’s taking a year+ is making much per-hour.

Thanks, David. Yes, post is funny that way. It’s finished when there’s a deadline, not, “finished when it’s finished.”

I do have a deadline, etc. It’s just that since this is my first *historic* documentary, I was curious what an average big-ish his-doc took. Non pre-scripted for the most part, apart from the facts of history.

    Any random numbers?

    Thanks again.

One more clarification – is that contracting, or full-time editor at a post house? Or, since it’s such a wide gammut of moola, perhaps straddling both realms, no? 😉

With full time positions, I’m assuming benefits are common out there.

Too bad about the state income tax. 😛

    Thanks a lot, Shane!

So, by “$1200-$4000” are you saying per-week?

Another thing… I went into the Easy Setup, and selected HDV 720p30 (and all the other HDV presets).

    Still nothing.

I was thinking the same thing… what a horrible description. That’s hilarious.

Thanks for the link, though! Great stuff, and very helpful. I’m curious how many of those editors are folks who work on lower end stuff, or in local news stations, as opposed to higher end documentary/film, and commcerial editing at post houses (and by commercials, I mean higher-end regional, to national).
