Thanks for the link… I tried it out, and it was fun clicking on things; but I’m not entirely sure I was clicking on the correct occupations, what with it being a somewhat rare occupation compared to others that were listed specifically.
Any other links/numbers would be really great!

Oh, have no doubt, I tried purging the render files. Something was biffed with the project itself; and what I did was the quickest workaround in that particular instance.

I don’t have time to read that link, and say how it applies to what I’ve experienced, but, I’ll just say that I had the same problem. The project I was working on was 720p 24N, and I had all the sequence presets correct, and everything. What it came down to was that, I think I started the project in 5.0, and then upgraded to Universal (5.1). Seems like that’s what made it weird.
The cure to the symptom was to throw a filter (say, 3-way color corrector, without any changes, if none are necessary) on the clips, and get it to render the whole string of shots; then they’d all play through smoothly. Plus, too, if I put a filter on an interview, and rendered it, it effectively shifted the frames of the footage (which is precisely why the rendered transitions jump; it’s because the frames it renders in it are a few frames off from the ones before it), and made the audio go out of sync by 3-4 frames – I would therefore have to slip the audio a few frames under any interviews with video renders to get it back in sync.
Annoying, but there are workarounds.

I actually have more expeience than I think I’ve given the impression of, and my storytelling skills in the edits are what clients have appreciated most, thus far. I’ve got an award winning short film that I wrote, shot, edited and directed (along with my twin brother, who I have collaborated with, much, to date), as well as a few documentaries, which have been broadcast/sold thousands of copies, and one that won an award for the director… I’ve also gone to an intesive screenwriting program in LA, called Act One.
You may not want to, but I’d be happy to send a copy of my resume that I have been working on lately, and see what you think of it, in comparison to other folks getting decent jobs, out there. I’ve got lots of great experience, and apparently talent, and skill, as well; my two things I am lacking are years and college, being 22, and self-taught.
Let me know if you want to take a look at my resume, to see what you think!

There are a few places specifically that I am going to try approaching, but will also talk to people I know, to try and sniff out any other leads.
What would everyone say the best approach to landing a job is? Dropping by with a reel and resume, giving a phone call, and warning them that you’re going to be coming with such, or what? Up until now, my work has been word of mouth, or people seeing it, and contacting directly… so, this self-promotion thing is new to me. 😉
Thanks again!

Guys, that was the quickest, most lovely life-saver I’ve ever encountered on here. Where do I send the check? 😉 (and, as it often is, the best solution is mind-numbingly simple).
Hey, now that I can sort by media start, I will cease to curse the P2 file names. I understand the need for such a feature. It’s just that I’m new to the format, and have worked with far too much DV, and capturing tape footage. New organization, and I’m really happy to be leaving that hideous old format behind.

The two only choices I see is “By Name” and “By Duration.” (And, with how illogically organized it is, at this point, sorting by duration would at least provide a smidgeon of predictability.)
Is there something I’m missing, though?

I’ll not be using a capture card…
So finally, if I were to reverse the flow, and to down-convert things (including HD) onto a DV timeline, would this roughly be the same process in QT Pro? I’d want to down-convert the HD and HDV footage to MiniDV res, right? What’s the smoothest way to get 24p material onto 29.97 timeline?

May 11, 2006 at 6:47 pm in reply to: Will QuickTime Pro Convert HDV and MiniDV to work on an HD timeline?I’m not DEAD-set on finishing in HD. The end product is DVD… If it’s going to provide the best product, overall, to be editing in DV, then what are my options?
The interviews for this project are shot on the HVX200 in HD, while the b-roll material is on MiniDV primarily, and HDV secondarily.
I need to eliminate render times during the edit, so what’s the best path?

Thank you…
Although we’re getting a Kona card in-house, I think that’ll be the last option, as they had already imported all the footage for this project in their native formats. It’d be a tough sell to convince the powers that be to spend the extra time re-importing things on the machine that’s got the Kona, since that is their most important machine.
Is there any way to get the QT Pro conversion to work? Is a Kona conversion less jerky?
