so i’ll need a firewire 800 pcmcia card anyway since the powerbook’s firewire 800 port only gives me 400mbps? do i understand that correctly? i thought it was only an issue w/ the g5’s? thanks…

just picked up a g-raid. i have a firewire 800 port on my powerbook and will never use the firewire 400 port simutaneously. when people say slow down will occur because the ports are on the same bus, do the mean when using the 400 and 800 ports at the same time or since the 800 and 400 are on the same bus the 800 will slow down anyway? thanks.

otherwise i’ll go the aja route. thanks…

hey guys, wouldn’t a decklink hd pro 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 be another low cost solution for viewing dvcprohd footage on a pvm-14L5 via component? it’s only $995 and $1495 which is cheaper than the aja kona lh. or am i missing something? thanks.

is the decklink hd pro 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 the cheapest solution for accomplishing this? what’s the difference between this and the multibridge? all i need is to view component out while editing in fcp and viewing on a pvm-14L5.

understood gary. i come from mainly a dv workflow and am just starting to get my feet wet working w/ dvcprohd footage. i’m on a tight budget but at the same time, want to do it the right way otherwise i’d go the dell/hdlink route. from what i understand from others, the pvm-14L5 is the better way to go over an LCD such as the cinema display and dell 2405. coming from a dv environment, was the luxury of firewire streaming out and composite/s-video into an ntsc monitor for realtime previewing this is what i want to accomplish w/ dvcprohd. now i understand in order to do this, extra money is needed to purchase a card such as the kona LH to get realtime previewing in fcp. thanks for leading me in the right direction gary. any more comments suggestion is much appreciated!

hi gary, thanks for the response! so let me make sure i got this correct…

so w/ a G5 fcp system w/ a sony pvm-14L5, i will need to use a kona LH(e) card to view dvcpro hd? also, what about for editing on a powerbook G4 out on the field? thanks again!
