Capturing HVX200 P2 via PCIxpress on MacBookPro

To get the information from thesee cards, you really need the latest verson of FCP (5.0.4) and the latest version of Quicktime (7.0.4…I think you can get away with 7.0.3). No capture card needed, but you need either a 1)PCMCIA slot on the powerbook, 2) P2 card reader, 3) a PC with PCMCIA slot and appropriate software or 4) download it directly from the camera via firewire.

2) Check Able Cinetech and Burns and Sawyer. These are still in short supply but I think they have one or two.

3) They are pretty backordered. We got a couple for a History Channel shoot, and were lucky to get them. One of them is up on e-bay…search and ye shall find.

This can be done in either of the HD modes or DVCPRO50.

I think the MACBookPro is not compatible with FCP just yet, and the adapter that will make the PCIExpress compatible with the PCMCIA card is not yet available so you should on a wait and see there, but a current Powerbook would work. You do need FCP5.04 and at least 1.4GHz processor.

I think there may be a couple to start, take a look at Birns and Sawyer, Able Cine Tech, EVS and Moviola.

Depends on the dealer and their list. As Shane pointed out their extra camera is for sale, looks to be a pretty good deal.

I do not recommend 10.4.4 and QT7.04 with FCP. I keep getting assorted errors with all sorts of issues.
Hell even my Filemaker data bases no longer work in the latest versions of the OS and QT.

I have been ingesting P2 footage fine with no issues, and I am running 10.4.3 and QT 7.0.3. Because that works I have not updated. Once I find a combination of something that works, I stick with it.

Jan is absolutely correct here.

Apple FCPStudio will be compatible with the Intel based Macintoshes no later than March 31, 2006.

Cross grades to FCPStudio Universal from FCP Studio are $49.00.

FCP 5.0.4 and OSX 10.4.4 are needed to have FCP open the HD MXF files you can still work in SD one version back on FCP and OSX
