Allan,
What codec are you using to edit with? If you’re using a non-editing codec like .H264 then you’ll get that message a lot. As well as frequent crashing.

March 15, 2011 at 9:51 pm in reply to: trouble Installing the LG Blu-Ray Rewriter for Power MacThanks again!
For whatever reason the burner is now showing up. It’s the strangest thing!
You were right about me wanting to burn blu-ray and not DVD. My reply was misleading rather than my initial post. Sorry.
Anyway, thank you so much for participating in these forums! They are really helpful.

March 15, 2011 at 8:59 pm in reply to: trouble Installing the LG Blu-Ray Rewriter for Power MacHi Larry,
I don’t doubt it’s a problem on my end. 🙂 From another forum I posted on I learned how to check the System Profiler to verify that my Mac is in fact recognizing the drive (doh! my bad). I’m not much of a hardware person so some of this is new to me.
The other forum suggested that I may need Toast, or a similar program, to operate the drive. Would you concur with that? Maybe you can help point me in the right direction. I have DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2 and didn’t think I would need anything else. Is that wrong?
Thanks again for your help.

Just a couple questions for you guys…because if my audio work flow could be improved I would be most grateful.
Is there any reason to convert an audio file from 44.1k to a higher bit rate? I always assumed that it doesn’t really help anything. Like buying a car with a certain sized engine, then upgrading the body size of the car to fit a bigger engine, and keeping the same engine you bought in the first place.
Also, Is there a benefit to converting from WAV to AIFF? I always thought they were both raw formats ready for editing.
Looking forward to hearing back!

Here’s a mind-boggling article that covers RAID system considerations, as well as many other things that I found helpful.

Are you capturing directly from your camera or from a tape deck?
I would try to log & capture from another device and see if that makes a difference. I’m not expert on how camera’s work, but maybe its ability to capture footage to the MiniDV tape is different from its ability to send that information to your computer.
But I could be way off base here…
Good luck! Let me know if you find the answer.

December 12, 2010 at 6:03 am in reply to: FCP 7 will not let me render/ NO ERROR messageHey David! Thanks for the reply. I actually have tried converting to AIFF and I still have the same problem. From my brief research, it seems that AIF and AIFF are the same right?
Thanks again.

I agree with Steve! You’ll get a lot out of color grading. Desaturation is VERY important!! 🙂 You can get even closer to a film look by pulling your mid tones to blue or green. You can also slightly bring your blacks towards blue or green as well!
If you’re not familiar with color grading software, then you can do some basic color grading right in your editing software by finding your 3 way color corrector. I suggest to shoot with the proper white balance settings at all times so that you never have to adjust it in post. The more you play with your colors in post the more quality degradation you may see.
I also recommend the 50mm lens when you’re ready to spend some more money! It has been the best purchase we’ve made regarding the camera itself.
Happy coloring!!! Would love to see some of your work!
