    Hello:
Much of the audio I receive comes to me as 44.1 wav files. I’ve set up a compressor droplet on my desktop so I can quickly batch convert these files into 48khz aiff files. However, I’ve discovered that the converted aiff’s, when played back, have the last 1.5 seconds abruptly cut off. I have two questions: Why is this happening and what might I do to avoid this?
    Thanks

    Evan,

I’ve experienced this as well. What I do is a bit time consuming, but it solves the problem:

Before you convert the sample rate open the files in an Editor (STP, Peak, Audition, etc). Add about 10 seconds of silence to the end of each file.

Let me know how it goes …

You can also try using iTunes, just go under Pref’s>General>import settings>use aiff

Make sure to switch this back to the default or you will end up with a large itunes Library in size not songs.

After you make the conversions right click on the file in iTunes and reveal in Finder.
Copy and paste that to your asset folder or scratch drive.

    Hi Evan,

The droplet is definitely the most elegant solution, (not sure why you’re getting an audio cut off?), but I’ve always just opened QuickTime and export out to AIFF. Matches exactly to the source.

Just a couple questions for you guys…because if my audio work flow could be improved I would be most grateful.

Is there any reason to convert an audio file from 44.1k to a higher bit rate? I always assumed that it doesn’t really help anything. Like buying a car with a certain sized engine, then upgrading the body size of the car to fit a bigger engine, and keeping the same engine you bought in the first place.

Also, Is there a benefit to converting from WAV to AIFF? I always thought they were both raw formats ready for editing.

    Looking forward to hearing back!

    God Bless,
