Goo day professionals, my company is switching to final cut pro from premier so I am a brand new user. I have watched a lot of training DVDs but one thing baffles me. let me explain, I imported an mpeg file (720X480) and it imported fine, dragged it on the time line, hot the space bar and cold not see or hear anything but a beeping noise. I googled and realize that it had to be rendered. Can you guide me on how to go about this so that it plays without having to render all the time? Remember I am new to final cut pro go easy on me. Thanks in advance.

FCP unlike PP is not as good at mixing things in a timeline. It wants you to standardize on a single codec ideally.

Drag wils into Compressor and use the Format Conversion category…. typically ProRes. You’ll find a lot on this on Cow site.

The media needs to be converted to a format that is supported by FCP. You can use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip to do this, depending on the specs of the original media.

    All the best,

Thanks for posting this! I’ve been using compressor for a while now and I feel a little silly for not knowing about Droplets! 🙂 Doh!
