Hi Jon,
A couple of thoughts. Apparently you did talk to a few of our support agents. Obviously getting someone on the phone is going to be faster than dropping an email, so if you find yourself pressed on time, make sure to give us a call.
I think the problem that Keith is having is totally separate, and he seems to have it resolved. Obviously SDI is handled totally different than analog, and his issue points to a bad connector somewhere rather than a signaling problem.
To add on to what Kristian said, as a test can you put the output of the Umatic on a TBC and then run it to our board? Does that help if you do? While I wouldn’t say that problems with Umatics are “known”, I would say it is more accurate to say that these types of problems can be typical of unstable video sources. The Decklink HD Extreme 3 board is definately expecting a stable signal.

Hey Keith,
I was going to respond to your earlier thread. That sounded more like a connector issue than a grounding issue. That could be on either the card or the cable, but looks like it was on the card.
If your dealer took it back then you should be good to go.
As for a batch of bad cards, this is the first one like that i’ve heard of, but I’m interested in getting all the info. If you have time, and are so inclined if you could send me an email with the serial number of the old board so I can look out for it when it comes in. Email at support-usa[at]blackmagic-design[dot]com and put Attn Joshua in the subject (in the body put the serial number and remind me of the subject).
If you can’t, no worries, it would just be helpful.

You have a 1080 computer monitor? Or are you talking about using a TV as a computer monitor?
Well..if you set the computer to output 1080, then yes, it will probably crop. If the TV has 1080, but can display 1200 it may work (given that it is scaling). But more likely it will simply cut it off as well. So you might have a hard time using the buttons.
So…seriously…best option. Use a computer monitor that supports 1920×1200. This is typical for monitors 24″, but you can find monitors that will support that res in smaller sizes.

Make sure you have the “remove field jitter when video is paused” option is unchecked in the Blackmagic Control panel. If this option is checked (as it is by default) it only shows one field on the output when the image is paused. This is likely what you are seeing.

Bob,
By output of the Ultrascope do you mean the graphics card output? As long as the output of the graphics card is set to 1920×1200 it should be fine. The GUI is what won’t resize. So if you output 1920×1200 DVI from the graphics card and go to a monitor that has a smaller native res but will scale it should work.
But just keep in mind that the reason we’ve limited this (well one of them) is for the quality and accuracy of the image itself. So having it scaled may not give the top quality. Will it significantly impact the usage? Meh..probably not, but it is likely to impact it somewhat.
If by output you mean the SDI passthrough, well…that works the same as our capture boards. It is just E to E. So what goes in, will go out.

The card does NOT output the GUI. The Graphics card outputs the GUI. The output of the board is an E to E of the input. So it will just be passed through.

Capturing in OnLocation will not be possible. Premiere Pro definately can do.
As for 1080p, we support 1080PsF24/23.98 on that unit but not 50p or 60p.

Unfortunately we do not yet support Premiere CS4 on the Mac. So the results you may get from installing the plugins may vary.
