I purchased my iMac with no intentions to do broadcast or HD. I wouldn’t even attempt HD on it. I simply bought it to do a few small side projects,( weddings, funerals, etc.) and to try out things that I don’t have time to try at work. I think if a user is aware of the limitations, the iMac will work just fine for them. You can’t expect to get BMW performance out of a VW Beetle. You know what I mean?

yeah, it will play simple transitions and test in real-time. The only thing I have had problems with is changing the speed of a clip. That has to be rendered or I drop frames. Overall, I am very happy with iMac.

I just bought an iMac, a couple weeks ago, for the same purpose. I have had no problems with it. I run the full Final Cut Studio on it, haven’t had any trouble. Yeah, its a little slower than the PowerMac I use at work, but it is tolerable. The only drawback I see is re-adjusting to a single monitor. At work, I use dual monitors and I love all the space. I’ve read that the iMac can support a second monitor, but I haven’t researched it. Anyway, just wanted to add my 2 cents.

Try double clicking on the clip in your soundtrack timeline. This should open your clip up in a new window that will let you apply effects only to that clip and the ability to analyze the clip for imperfections(hums, pops, etc.) and fix them automatically.

What I do to edit each individual clip is highlight all of my audio clips in FCP, then choose export as “XML.” Then open the XML file in Soundtrack Pro. This will reporduce your audio tracks, just as you see them in FCP. Then clean up your audio and export the mix. You will get two tracks that you can sync video in your FCP timeline.

Hmm, still doesn’t seem like it should drop frames when it plays tries to play through an orange bar. No worries though, won’t make or break a project. Thanks for all your input. Take care.

Why would there be any conflicts, legal or not?
