The 4.0.1 didn’t fix anything HDV related any your not the only one having problems capturing footage with CS4 (check out the CS4 Premiere forum). A guy from Adobe said said would be addressed in big update in Febuary most likely. (I lost the link but I read on the Adobe forums)

“This is a known issue.
Cheers
Eddie”That must make him feel better. I guess you add ‘check for updates’ to daily editing workflow.

The only difference between CS3 and CS4 is that now you can open a premiere dynamic link in AE and there’s also a new dynamic link to Encore.
Also now you can select a single clip or sequence to export to AE (the only great feature about CS4 besides Media Browser).
Being able to open a ‘live’ premiere clip in AE might have some uses but because AE isn’t real-time it’s not like it’s some amazing new feature.
Sounds like your complaining about not being able to see an after effects comp in real time and the Premiere preview takes longer to render than it would in AE.
That’s the way it is. AE will never be real-time once you add effects so don’t think just cause you open it up in Premiere it suddenly will.
The feature works best when you don’t need to watch the AE ‘dynmalinked’ because you know your what you did is right(like doing a cc to fix a shot or feature removal).
It may not be real time but it keeps me from having to lose a single generation going between my NLE and the compositor. With out it I most likely woudn’t even edit with Premiere.

November 16, 2008 at 2:58 pm in reply to: no audio in pp cs4 timeline, error while performing conform on the fileI’ve been hanging around the adobe forums and even though there the usual ex-beta testers who swear cs4 premiere is the best NLE ever. There has yet to be one person who can edit/import HDV and also nobody can seem to get avchd to work is a way that doesn’t resemble editing uncompressed HD.
I do remember a guy who works for Adobe saying there was a bug that stopped HDV footage from capturing/encoding after certain time span had passed. He definitely said that it was expected in a future.
CS4 is the RED camera NLE’s.

They shouldn’t advertise these features if there not available when you buy them. They aren’t RED and don’t have the disclaimer.
What makes CS4 such an improvement over CS3. I can’t render or edit any faster than I could in CS3 and stuff that was in CS3 just isn’t there.
BTW In CS3 it was export-still-OK. And for those of us with P2 cards the export-audio-OK was hell of a short cut. Now you have to open AME each time. Even After Effects CS4 still has this feature.

They rushed out AVCHD support and nobody is happy with it.

No AAF, no single click save stills, no more stream hinting, HDV and AVCHD synch problems, Track Matte effect doesn’t work, Media browser doesn’t preview 24p correctly, XML to Final Cut doesn’t work, no OMF, no edit with Audition, no 3rd party codecs anymore and those are just the obvious things.
I could go on. We now have crash reports, what’s next service pack releases.
I’m also disappointing that Adobe never said that certain feature don’t work until there is an update. And they didn’t release a trial till the software had been out for a month. (if they had released a trial they wouldn’t have sold nearly as many copies, I wouldn’t have bought one)
https://www.mbsdirect.com/current/News/Video-Production-News/adobe-cs4-production-premium.htmlHere’s what I mean about Adobe screwing filmmakers.
All the workflow issues have to do with Adobe wanting their timeline to handle various types of footage. So a filmmaker who works in 24p and doen’t mix formats has to go ‘Interpret Footage’ so people who mix footage don’t have to ‘Interpret Footage’.In CS4 AE you can’t lasso the clips and Interpret them all at once.

There are more missing features than new features.

There a a/v sych bug recently confirmed at the Adobe forums. Basically HDV and ACCHD don’t work as advertised and are being fixed in ‘a future update’. If you ask me CS4 premiere is one big beta.

“While tinkering I discovered another disappointment. I used to be able (under 2.0) to just Export -> Frame and be able to quickly grab frames of interest. Under CS4 attempting to Export kicks off the separate Adobe Encore process (10 – 15 seconds), and then you need to drill through a handful of options, (another 10 – 15 seconds). Grossly less efficient from a work flow perspective than 2.0. ”
Totally agree. Video’s like this are totally misleading. https://www.mbsdirect.com/current/News/Video-Production-News/adobe-cs4-production-premium.html
There are as many missing/broken features as there are new broken ones in CS4.
