I have always been most pleased with “lighting” effects, including Knoll and Optical Flares, when I create the effect on a black solid, and then composite in Add mode. This adds the values of the brighter pixels to the underlying layers, giving a more convincing, brighter flare.

It sounds to me that you need to increase the life span of your particles (or make the death later). This will make the smoke plume taller.

That splash screen says that you’re trying to open PPro CS6. Could the problem be having both versions on your machine. I’m just asking – still on CS6 myself.

Yeah…it’s certainly a very clean and easy to navigate interface. My mouse wheel does the page flips in either direction.

I think it depends on who you mean by “people”. The average viewer (who was it who said “the masses are asses”?) still thinks it’s news, delivered in tiny, palatable, story-oids, easy on the brain, with little processing required.
I’m not being elitist here, but I do think that there are wildly diverse audiences out there; some, who just wish to have their opinions verified, and those who seek more detail, so that they can make the decision on the story themselves (in stories which are more than just who, what, when, where, how). The station I worked at, which has had a monopoly in New Hampshire for years, is considered by many viewers to be a joke, full of typos, misinformation, mispronunciation, and bush-league reportage. I watch it for the weather, which is right about half the time…

It shouldn’t be a problem, once you have all our images in AE, to select them all, and then Scale them all at once (after unlocking the x/y link) by then setting the y scale to -100 percent. This will flip them top to bottom.
