Remember the most important fact of archiving, no matter which medium you choose: offsite! No matter how many copies you have in the same facility, if it collapses, burns down, or experiences any other “act of God”, you’re as well off as if you hadn’t backed anything up!
When I was art director at a large broadcast station, we used DLT, and part of my job was rotating a selection of backups which I would bring home with me. Of course, nothing ever happened…

Probably a compressor on one of the refrigeration units is going on and off.

Here’s a link to Adobe’s info on the process – capturing noise print, often called sampling the noise floor:

This should help you out. The trick will be not reducing the noise too drastically, which might cut into the range of what you’re trying to preserve.

Here’s something to try:

Essentially, the answer at the bottom of the thread is that you have to arm the Record button, a square button with an R in the middle. This should bring your mic live. Good luck!

You could do it using Element 3D in After Effects, or in any 3D program – I use 3DS Max. It can be done using an array of boxes (in Element 3D), or in Max, creating a box, then an array, then animating the boxes and offsetting their timing.

Why don’t you just pick up a used HP Z800 or 820 on *Bay for well under a grand? I know it’s not built from scratch, but the configurability of these boxes is totally unsurpassed, the case design is just incredible, and you can tear them down to the motherboard without any tools!
