I own it, and have never known it to do more than duplicate the same layer. For really powerful arrays and manipulation of layers, PlaneSpace does some incredible things. Bit of a learning curve, but not bad at all. You can do stuff in minutes that it would take hours to do otherwise:

Just make sure they’re the same size, or you might get some unexpected results.

Hi Joel –
You have to do a bit of digging, but in addition to the free weekly 8 pack, there’s also a bunch of free sample downloads with each sound library – you click the Samples button, and then a window opens up with 5 or 6 different samples in different formats that you can download.

Hi Joel –
Take a look at the stuff Sony creates for its ACID music studio. There are collections of all types of music, and most of it is quite good. They also offer a weekly freebie. There are production cuts available:
https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/productionmusic
As well as loop toolkits, many of which have free samples – beats, samples, guitar parts, and a lot more:
https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/loops
All of the sample libraries have clip samples which you can download for free, so if you’ve got some means of putting them together in a multitrack package (I use ACID Music Studio 9, which is quite inexpensive, and powerful). I also sometimes use Audition, which does the job as well, although not with the powerful looping and time adjustment tools of ACID.
Bear in mind that when it’s free, there are often two possibilities – it’s stolen, or it’s garbage. With the Sony tracks, they’re trying to get people to buy their library collection by giving free samples, so it’s fine to use it, and the recording quality is very nice (always download the .wav files).

Would it be possible to shoot on two separate days (or times of day), one with the traffic moving at full speed, and one with bumper to bumper crawl, and then mask the two different shots by lane? You’d have to put marks on the bridge – or railing – and lock your tripod and lens to identical positions, also shooting at times of day when the light is pretty much the same. I don’t know whether this would simplify things, or make them more difficult. Just a thought…

July 10, 2013 at 4:29 pm in reply to: How do you handle canceled bookings when freelancing?I agree with both Steve and Fernando that’s it’s a bit self-defeating, especially with a regular client, to play hardball. But there are clients who will constantly squeeze both ends against the middle, with cancellations, too many revisions, and other thoughtless actions that can squeeze profits down to nothing. There has to be a way, even if it’s in the fine print of the contract, to set down the rules, just in case this potential for client abuse becomes a reality.
I think that it’s a fair policy, not only when submitting a contract, but also when the first shoot is being scheduled, to mention that certain other expenses are locked in two days before the shoot which can’t be cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, and that if the client must cancel or delay, these expenses must be paid.

The documentation is good, but a basic knowledge of audio production is assumed. I think you could put a bit of time in on these Adobe TV tutorials, and be more ahead of the game:

July 10, 2013 at 4:01 am in reply to: will i lose edits or info from my project if i uninstall and re-install Premiere cs5.5.2?Just make sure that before you uninstall you write down a list of any plugins you may have. If you don’t reinstall these, you will get errors, but, as Shane said, nothing will be lost.

Here’s another good overview of the practical uses of Audition:
Over the years I’ve used a dedicated DAW, Sound Forge, SoundBooth, and Cool Edit Pro, which was the genesis of Audition:
https://www.adobe.com/special/products/audition/syntrillium.html
I’m firmly convinced that Audition blows them all away. While SoundBooth was good at what it did, it was really more of a simplistic, yet fairly powerful, sound tool for video editors.
