I finally understand how you think this will work, with the “monochrome” example. From my comprehension of the matte /alpha creating a qualification area, you aren’t actually compositing the grain itself into the image, you would be “correcting-in” a grain cutout. That’s not exactly how film grain works, but for a very low budget simulation, it might be close enough. If you were attempting to match emulsions or grade-in a digital image within a film-originated sequence (or vice versa), you’d never be able to mimic the chromatic range of halide clouds for specific emulsions. Creative, though.

That’s a mouthful. Yes, Blackmagic Resolve’s “real time” is predicated on CUDA which is why its nVidia-only at this point, and likely to remain so. When users consider attempting to run both Apple COLOR and BMResolve on the same platform, it is plainly possible; even though the recommended profiles, read — the ones supported by the manufacturer without being reprimanded for asking for help when the home brew doesn’t work — are almost diametrically opposed. I can’t even get COLOR/FCP to run flake-free on a single system under Snow Leopard on a textbook hardware configuration, so trying to get these two to share a bunk is not on my personal to-do list. Thanks, but its bad enough as it is.
If it costs even a day to fix, those “thousands” of dollars are down the toilet.

The latter — unplug the monitor(s) from the supernumary GPU. Then the OS ignores it, and its how you sidestep the multiple GPU issue as has been explored in the past couple of years. Yes, it “works”, but only in the sense that only one GPU is officially recognized at a time within the Apple COLOR implementation, and its when you “remove” it from activity, the conflicts resolve.
This single pipeline is one of the reasons why the “real-time preview playback” has eluded users, and even a somewhat higher performance card would hardly make any difference at all. Reality is that it would have to be orders of magnitude faster, not just a percentage comparable to a restaurant tip. That might be important for a gamer, but the gap is so large in COLOR that debating the difference between a couple of cards in the same family is fatuous.

No. Resolve does not support the same layered sequence interface that COLOR does, and appears to support the traditional CMX3400 EDL protocol. That may change in the future.

At this point it is CUDA-dependent nVidia only with Blackmagic Video interface.
It is a different tool, again, its who’s waving the wand, not the wand.

The walls have ears and since this wonderful connectivity called the world wide web, there is no such thing as privacy. Conversely the credit card is not your personal property, it is the bank’s property, (its in the contract that nobody ever reads — too much like a manual, I guess) and it is the bank who would have to get permission, and they won’t.
Like so many other things that corporate entities offer, “personalized” is not actually what it implies. Makes me want to hop off the grid… but there is no escape. We have been assimilated.

Well, either Blackmagic will ask you to cease and desist, or sue you, or the bank will refuse to duplicate a copyrighted trademark.
In any case, one would think it would be fairly harmless, since only a few thousand people in the world would have any idea that there was any significance at all in the brand.
Try it with “Mickey Mouse” or Ferrari’s “Cavallino Rampante” sometime and see who lands on you like a ton of bricks. Its okay to be a fan, but claiming ownership and/or unauthorized use of a trademark has legal ramifications. I gather you’ve never had to deal with clearances?

Extremely doubtful as everything I’m inferring from the discussion so far is that the Linux version is a custom hardware build using components with unique instruction sets. Which is hardly surprising.
As far as the nVidia 2200 whatchamacallit goes, it might be (relatively) easy to find on the net, but actually ordering and receiving it might be another matter, as many others have discovered with any number of other things you might find….
