  • Resolve on Mac supports Red Rocket, ProRes and Cineform

Posted by Peter Chamberlain on August 17, 2010 at 7:46 am

Blackmagic Design is pleased to announce our support for RED Rocket in both our Mac and Linux systems. Stereo r3d playback with dual Rockets is also supported on the Linux system. In each case installation is plug and play. If you do not have Rockets installed, r3d clips are decoded and debayered as per user configurable settings on a project or clip basis.

Resolve on Mac also supports ProRes and H.264. Mac and Linux support Cineform file playback inc. stereo and with an additional license read and write of DNxHD.

These new features and more including stereoscopic grading and monitoring in the V7.0 release which is now in beta.

What’s the date when we can go out and buy a Resolve on a Mac. And what’s the qualified system and cards?

It’s been discussed before, and the helping kind of guy I am, I won’t point you to “google it”. 😉

As far as I have read either here or on other forums, these are the specs:

    Either a…

  • Mac Pro 2009 2x Quad 2.26GHz or better
  • Mac Pro 2010 (no more details at this point)
  • Mac Pro 2008 has been tested and works, but is not supported nor encouraged to be used with DaVinci for proper performance.

    …equipped with

  • GeForce GT 120
  • GeForce GTX 285 or Quadro 4800
  • Decklink HD Extreme 3 or HD Extreme 3D for SDI/HDMI monitoring. Other vendors will be supported when they get going on the SDK
  • Control panel support

  • DaVinci Resolve
  • Tangent Wave
  • Other vendors have been mentioned in video presentations and forums, such as

  • JL Cooper
  • Euphonix
  • Other Tangent panels
  • Support for these will be added after release of DaVinci for Mac. Exactly when haven’t been mentioned or discussed anywhere. Only thoughts and wishes from loads of users.

    Licensing

  • You’re limited to using DaVinci on a Mac with a DaVinci license dongle attached to a USB port

I read they just had a presentation/launch in Australia covering some of the new features. Can’t wait to read all about it.

In this setup does the RedRocket replace the BM decklink card?

Awesome news all around and the word “beta” means it’s close I hope!

Interesting to me that as more “new” features are added, or, “functionality” would be a marketing word, the more questions and qualifications get asked, about does this system do this, or do you need that, and does it work with this, or do I need to buy another system, or who needs to build this and if I want to do that, do I need something else… or, you need to buy our “special” system…

Beginning to sound like a familiar story… like “AVID”…

How do we squeeze in a red card when we have two gfx a decklink card and a raid controller?

    Outboard PCIe.

Since Apple have clearly indicated they won’t support it, by keeping the MacPro design static.
