DaVinci logo and use on VISA ?
Posted by Ola Haldor voll on August 18, 2010 at 2:28 pmI have the opportunity to use my own image on the new VISA card in my bank. Would it be too much if I use the DaVinci logo? 😉 Being a fan, and hopefully soon a user too, this is one more step being a lunatic enthusiast. If not the DaVinci logo, something else related to my profession will go on it for sure.

August 18, 2010 at 3:46 pmWell, either Blackmagic will ask you to cease and desist, or sue you, or the bank will refuse to duplicate a copyrighted trademark.
In any case, one would think it would be fairly harmless, since only a few thousand people in the world would have any idea that there was any significance at all in the brand.
Try it with “Mickey Mouse” or Ferrari’s “Cavallino Rampante” sometime and see who lands on you like a ton of bricks. Its okay to be a fan, but claiming ownership and/or unauthorized use of a trademark has legal ramifications. I gather you’ve never had to deal with clearances?

August 18, 2010 at 4:23 pmFrom what I’ve heard, it will only be compatible with MasterCard, but you’ll have to wait until it’s officially released to know for sure 😉

Really??? Cease and desist? Being sued??? It’s just a decoration for crying out loud, you’re not promoting to be DaVinci or BM, what about if I put a DaVinci desktop wallpaper, am I going to get a cease and desisit, or get sued too? Besides, how could anybody ever find out?

[Ola] I just told everyone.. Now all the freakin’ internet knows. That’s how.
The walls have ears and since this wonderful connectivity called the world wide web, there is no such thing as privacy. Conversely the credit card is not your personal property, it is the bank’s property, (its in the contract that nobody ever reads — too much like a manual, I guess) and it is the bank who would have to get permission, and they won’t.
Like so many other things that corporate entities offer, “personalized” is not actually what it implies. Makes me want to hop off the grid… but there is no escape. We have been assimilated.

Maybe they’ll send the BlackMagic police to your door
BTW, my deskop wallpaper is Snow Leopard default, not DaVinci logo (just in case)
