Oh, ok, now that you mention that the flicker’s a matte clip I can figure that part out, it makes sense.

Cool. I love it when a piece of software is so deep that you’re still learning tricks years into adopting it.

I’d love to know how you did the gate weave & flicker.

Did you create them by hand with keyframing?

  • If you need to do things like this on osx, I recommend the name mangler app. You can just set it up as a preset and change the names all at once.

One reason I can imagine that you’d actually want it as a prefix, is if you needed to rebuild the timeline manually for whatever reason…

Resolve’s scaling filter is very good, except I’m not crazy about its results with interlaced material. I’m much happier with it going from 720p up or resizing. I use a secret sauce mixing different software packages, depending on the footage when I have the time.

If you can rent/use one teranex is the way to go.
If you’re strapped for time and cash, kona3 isn’t bad.

Back in the day I really liked optical flow stung in shake and compressor but you had to be careful about artifacts.

    December 22, 2012 at 2:38 am in reply to: C300 = Fail

I haven’t had to really work with it too much, I never recommended it to any of my clients for these exact reasons… People need to learn that 8-bit isn’t enough.

That said, I do know someone who’s very happy with the C300, but she mainly uses for verité doc shoots. I played with it a bit and I could see why she likes it. Ergonomically going hand-held with it felt really nice, steady without a specialized kit.

Her kit fits in her backpack, and gets decent quality in low light. It also has a low-footprint, it looks like a dslr or a still format camera, which lets her get in and out of places where she might not be able to go with a Red or setup a BMCC.

I think it’s just that the C300 was designed with documentary / eng in mind, and the BMCC was designed with post in mind.

Can you name another company that will sell you an individually calibrated monitor at a very reasonable price, provide free firmware updates and re-calibrate the monitor any time, for free?

Are there any other options on the market that are as accurate in the same price range?

I’d love to know one if there is one.

If you’re working in Rec-709 land… I really don’t see a better deal out there. I have never had any issues or complaints.

Sure I’d love to have a the Dolby or the sony OLED with a Davio box, but I’d also like to grade every film in a 60 seat 4k theater.

I personally care less about that last 2% of color accuracy that I think we’re talking about here, and I think we should try to refocus towards the Display manufacturing industry, where every TV & computer monitor (and mobile display device) is a completely different image.

I’m dealing with more and more clients remotely, and post budgets are not getting bigger. I would just kill for a relatively inexpensive & simple radiospectrometer / calibration suite that could be in the hands of consumers. In a world where a teranex costs 2000$, I don’t understand why there isn’t a good prosumer level calibration tool I can give to a relatively tech savvy producer to make sure we are at least looking at similar things.

  • Alternatively, There’s a way to force FCP7 to rename the clips with the File Names.

  • Yeah… looking like I might pick up the indie bundle for this project. Don’t care about the looks, but like all the various light leaks.

    Thanks.
