ON a fast 8-core Mac 30 minutes took a couple of friends 2h30min for the conversion.

They were doing a feature in Argentina and although they loved the codec (so much better than the noisy DVCPRO HD) they hated the transcode times….

I edited 16 chapters of a an online fiction series in Spain (Chica busca Chica). It was done with a couple of V1 (hdv 1080 25p). we lost a couple of hours trying to get the camera recognised by Final Cut. I was warned that Final Cut would have a hard time getting to recognise the format, and so it happened and suddenly for no apparent ‘logic’ reason it started working the director told me that it had happened like that previously in two other jobs he had done in another company…

Suddenly it works… We had this problem whenever a new V1 was used for the first time….

I’m aware of the improved workflow for the RED cam.

I’ve already had three RED-related jobs (a videoclip, a museum exhibition and a shortfilm) and having suffered the ultra-buggy REDCINE program I appreciate the improvement.

But I’ve had more than a dozen jobs where the listed features I was asking for would have been
    “ESSENTIAL”

I might not be alone stating that I’m worried that Apple priorities are more into the phone bussiness

  • Quicktime is not a codec but a container. You can have DV/DVCPRO50/Animation/Uncompressed/whatever-quality coded Quictimes. I would recommend using Uncompressed 8-10 bit for most mundane works.

Is there no solution for our troubles?

Will all our work be futile?

Does varicam not care for the poor souls of PAL-LAND?

    We really liked the camera…

    Please HELP!!!

We could do it I suppose. Problem is we shot everything at 25 fps. What will happen if I change now to 23.98. Maybe time-artifacts, strobbing images?

    Any idea on this?

From what I’ve heard, it’s a hidden feature… A friend of mine went to a course here in Spain where teachers showed him..

    Greetings from Spain.
