Hi George,
Thanks for all your effort.
I tried resetting, but it didn’t help. Vegas didn’t seem to start up at all. No splash screen or anything.
I tried other buttons to start it, but none of them worked.
There was a restore point, but from a few weeks back, after which I had also installed other software.
So all considered, I thought it would be faster just to remove Vegas and reinstall it. Now it works again, though still slow. It doesn’t play HD video smoothly at all. So I still have to find out what is the cause of that. Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it.
Best regards,

Hi George,
On https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/updates/vegasfamily you will find an update for Vegas Pro 12, listed as version 12 build 770, available in several languages. This is the one I chose. In my download folder it appeared as described.
When I ran the update, I got the screen message asking whether I wanted to replace the earlier version of Vegas. Do you get this message also if you don’t have the production assistant on your computer yet but have Vegas Pro 12 and DVD Architect instead?Best regards,

Hi George,
I did download the upgrade from the Sony website. It is version 2.0.770(01). That’s what it says in my list of downloads.
I am still working with Windows 7 64 bit, which previously (after my upgrade to i7) seemed to work fine.
I did do a clean re-install of 7 not too long ago, when I switched to an SSD to speed up the system.Does this help?
Best regards,

I hope this screen shot gives sufficient detail. You can zoom in for a closer view.
Track 1: original animation with bezier mask on bus destination
Track 2: text to fill this mask on the bus, on black background
Track 3: original animation footage with bezier mask on street name
Track 4: text to fill this mask on transparent backgroundWhen all text from track 4 were to appear on top of previous tracks, this would be another problem. But the letters preceding the N visible here left of the lamp post, are blocked by the lamp post as they move from right to left. All key points in the mask are set to negative. It is just the N of the word VAN that is projected in front of the lamp post.

Look at the N now moving in front of the lamp post, where the A moved behind it.
In the bottom preview screen you can see the Bezier masks applied. The lamp post is clearly cut free. So how can the N move in front of it, when without changing a thing the previous letters moved behind it, according to the mask?

Tried it with Avidemux 2.5.6 The difference is that now it doesn’t crash, I just get a green screen. The file doesn’t play or convert. It detected H264 and said that there might be B-frames and did I want to switch to another mode. Whether I do or don’t, the result is the same: green screen, no file.

Hi John,
Hope you don’t mind me getting back to this topic. I found your screenshot of avidemux very helpfull. I installed avidemux to solve my problem with mp4 video’s and tried to convert them to the suggested format. But all avidemux does on my system, is crash. No problems with SVP12, other than not being able to import this type of mp4. But it doesn’t play in WMP either. Not that this particular video ever did, just older versions of mp4 video. I shot it with my phone, a Sony Xperia, which has had an upgrade or three since everything seemed to work. Now I can’t play or convert it. So what do I do next?
Thanks.

In the mean time I’ve gotten to the point that I can render a project once after I started up the computer. After that, it will crash at some point. Mostly after all media have been rendered, but before the file is saved completely. I can’t play the file and Windows does not list its length.
To get to a point where I can render again, I need to disconnect the computer for several hours and start anew. Not a very workable solution.Does this tell you something about what is wrong?
To prevent flickering/flashing of events on the timeline, or have the image disappear altogether, I found that when adding specific effects (color matching, stablizing or reversing) I need to render the affected/effected event to a new track and use that instead of the original media. It’s a cumbersome ‘solution’, but one that keeps me going for the moment.
