Does it matter whether the video files are on one hard drive or two?
Does it matter whether the hard drives are of a different kind?
When I disconnected one of those two drives and loaded the remaining video on the timeline, it went much faster. Probably due to already having built the peaks?

Thanks very much, John. In all the years I use SVP I never looked at the timeline ruler setting. Never even knew you could adjust that. DUH. You were spot on of course: it was set to 29,97 fps. Problem solved. One less thing to worry about.
    Thanks.

Whenever I drag the edge of media it goes up to 29 instead of 24.

I use SVP12 and therefor installed the software indicated for SVP 8 thru 12. There, under extensions, I saw no mention of autosave, save or anything like that. Sorry.

    Thanks.
I found the software: Exaclibur. I misread the name on my phone. My eyes….
Anyway: in the temporary files folder I couldn’t find anything on undo’s and redo’s. I deleted a lot of files I thought I could miss, only to find them renewed once I started Vegas again.

I installed Excalibur and found it in Vegas. I read the manual. Despite all this I could not find what was described in the manual for autosaving anywhere in the dedicated window. Since I could also not pay for the software (I was redirected to a non existent page I believe, which is a bit alarming when you come to think of it) and without payment it can only be used for 15 days, I removed it. Much better to find and eliminate the problem, than to add stuff to remedy the then still existing problem. Non of the other functionalities of the software I need.

So I am still hoping to find the cause of this saving problem. It appeared that a newer version of my project was actually saved. It did not however appear in the recent projects list, nor was the one autosaved by Vegas.

I did look up the temporary files folder, but didn’t know it could be a problem. I’ll check to see what can be deleted.
I tried to find the utility you mention. Where can I find it, and how do I use it?

Frequently renaming my project as you mentioned has been a practice for as long as I can remember. I do however save a project under the same name several times before renaming it. Otherwise the count would run into the hundreds for relatively small projects.

  • How can I find out whether my card enables GPU acceleration? Is there something in the driver that I should change for that to work?
I got my graphics card from a neighbor who wanted an even bigger one. I have hardly used its potential, I think. I have just now started to use the third screen possibility, with great difficulty I might add. According to the specifications this card should be able to connect to up to 6 displays. So even now I am scratching the surface.

  • Thanks for replying.
No, I didn’t think of that. I should have, I know. I’ll let you know if it crashes again. It didn’t so far.

On this point I have a question: is there ever a circumstance in which you SHOULD enable GPU acceleration? The Sapphire HD7870 is a graphics card capable of HD gaming on as much as 6 screens. I would think this would help greatly previewing HD or even 4K projects. When applying multiple layers of effects, I often find Vegas struggling to give me even a mediocre preview quality.

August 19, 2017 at 8:32 pm in reply to: project media blinking

Thanks for responding so quickly. No, first time for blinking thumbnails, in Vegas or any software, as far as I can tell.
It has been a while since I worked on a new project of mentionable size, for which I captured and imported more than 4 hours worth of material. In the meantime I needed to update my graphics driver for the Radeon HD7870. This came about because I got a blue screen, which seemed to indicate the necessity of an update. Since then I haven’t had a blue screen anymore, so that seemed to have done the job.

When I started capturing and importing media, the blinking wasn’t there. It started after I had imported/captured for a while. Maybe 2 hours worth, I’m not sure. Might have been more. Since then the files of which the thumbnails were blinking, seemed to have changed slightly. After a fresh start I thought I saw some which were blinking previously not doing so anymore, and vice versa.

    Does this help?
