Well, first off, I think you got a 16 year old on the phone. Did his voice crack when he answred?

That being said, I’ve got a very old (7 years) Q-Drive fire wire drive I use routinely with no problems. I also use an HP USB drive for the same thing…. I did format both in a PC. I remember from the pre Win2k / OS9 days it seemed to help Windows recognize it was a drive. OSX puts a couple of files on there, but I’ve not had problems… Maybe if you format it on a PC?

First off, does the timecode on the DigiBeta match the DVCam? If it does, sweet. If it doesn’t, you won’t be able to match back to your digibeta.

Your resolution really depends on how much storage you have. A lot? Digitize at DV25 (if you have mojo). A little? Digitize everything at 15:1, edit, then redig at a higher resolution (if you are going to output from the Avid) or take your EDL/files to a better Avid. DV25 via fire wire is the best you’ll get out of DV. Digitizing DV footage any higher is a waste of space.

Why not rent a digibeta deck for a day, digitize and then rent it again when your ready to output? You’ll need an RS422 to serial converter (google it – about a $100.00US) and a Mojo….

Have you ever been able to open any projects or did this just start? Are you using different user settings at the OS level? Are you using the latest greatest OS? That might be your problem. As I recall, 4.6 was very picky – there was a Windows Hotfix that played havoc with Avid. If you can, roll back to the last version of XP that worked. And turn off automatic updates!

You really need to post the system info. Is it a Meridian? Avid XPress or Media Composer? PC or Mac?

It’s kind of like me asking the COW what color is my car…

Follow the specs on the Avid site.

[robertbec] “Just cause Avid has not tested these does not mean they wont work”

You are correct. It also means you can’t get tech support. It also means you are up the proverbial creek if your system goes down and you have a client wondering where their product is.

Unless, of course you are doing this as a hobby. Then by all means, run what you got. Heck, run XP Media Center – it might work and the OS is cheaper…

If you’d post your system details (OS, RAM, Mojo or not, etc.), that would be a start!

I’d go with the DV50 and see if that helps.
