Marquee Title Quality
I’m having problems with my titles in Avid. When I create them in Marquee, they look great (subjectively, of course) and are very crisp and clear. But when I save them to my NewsCutter XP, they tend to lose a lot of their clarity. They get muddy and bleed into my backgrounds. Have any of you ever had any problems with this? Thanks.

Are you saving your titles at 1:1 compression? I’m not familiar witht the Newscutter line, but I’m assuming it will accept mixed resolution like the AXPro will…

Hi Jon,
Thanks for responding. I’ve looked at the output settings on my Marquee, and don’t see anything about changing the resolution. And the Newscutter is very similar to the AXPro. I’m an ACI, and I teach the 119 course to our producers who use Newscutters. I’m wondering if it’s just the monitors I’m using (LCD-no client monitors on our systems). It just looks so crisp and clean on the Marquee, that it’s frustrating when you bring it into the Newscutter and it gets fuzzy.

Whats your resolution set for in media creation in the settings tab? How do your GRFX look on air / the final product?

We do all of our media at DV25, which is what my title setting in media creation is set too. The grfx don’t look too bad on the air, but we’re also broadcasting an analog-ish signal (satellite distribution). It could be just me, as I showed our graphics guy and he didn’t think it looked to bad. Maybe I just need glasses 🙂

I’d try bumping title creation to 1:1 uncompressed. DV compression is an awful thing to do to titles if you don’t have to.

I agree. Even the low end stuff that goes to DVD get 1:1 title creation. I’d bet you’d really notice a difference if you change it. Don’t worry about the mixed resolution on your timeline. The XPro can handle it.

I would love to be able to change to 1:1, but I don’t have that option. Here are the different resolutions that are available in my media creation setting:
DV 25 411 OMF (what we use)
DV 50 OMF
15:1s OMF
MPEG 30 OMF
MPEG 40 OMF
MPEG 50 OMFAs you can see, there’s no 1:1 option. Is there some way I can turn on that option? If not, which of these do you suggest?

I’m not familiar with the NewsCutter machines. I have Xpress Pro at home (no Mojo so no 1:1 either) and I use DVCPro 50 for titles.

Is there a tab in the media creation settings for titles?

Yes, but it only has options for the resolutions I posted earlier:
DV 25 411 OMF (what we use)
DV 50 OMF
15:1s OMF
MPEG 30 OMF
MPEG 40 OMF
MPEG 50 OMFI supposed I could try one of the others, but do you think that would help?
