Charlie,
Easy fix.
Control Panel, Power Options, Change Plan Settings, Change Advanced Power settings, then where it says “Turn Hard Disks after” instead of selecting a number of minutes, set it to say “never”

Matt,
Our ST5610-U5 SOHOTANK(6Gb backplane) 4 bay mini-SAS is $339.00 https://stardom-usa.com/product_detail.php?p_id=25&func=d#content & works great with that ATTO card R680. You can purchase it from https://www.videoguys.com
Setting up the RAID with ATTO is pretty straightforward. ATTO is also a partner of ours.
Just a suggestion.

What RAID controller card are you using?
If you’re running the ATTO R680 card in RAID 6 you should be getting at least 800MB/s read/write. WD Caviar black 2TB aren’t drives we recommend with the ST8-U5 SOHOTANK. We recommend Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB.

Drake,
My 2 cents? https://www.stardom-usa.com/product_detail.php?p_id=72 this product is sold unpopulated, that is without drives, but will do what you need it to do using eSATA.
We have stock.

July 7, 2011 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Check out my new review – Stardom PD2510 – a RAID 1 mirrored backup for Mac Pro in a single slotJeremy,
We’ve tested with SSDs and the results are mixed, some brands work, others don’t and the ones that work, the speeds aren’t nearly as good as with 2.5″ hard drives. That being said, SSD’s aren’t recommended in this particular product.

As long as you are using the same size 2.5″ and model number drives you’re good to go. (Looks like David responded to you at about the same time I did). 😉 I think David more accurately addressed your question as well.

I’ll get this one for you as my associate, Walter, hadn’t responded to you yet.
Native Command Queuing (NCQ) is a technology designed to increase performance of SATA hard disks under certain conditions by allowing the individual hard disk to internally optimize the order in which received read and write commands are executed.
Not only is it safe, it’s recommended to use.

Thank you very much for your suggestions on this. Santo, we’d like to do what we can to help also. I’d again try Areca, their support should be addressing your issues. Did you just recently update your OS? If so I’d check with Areca to make sure that you have the latest drivers installed to match the OS.
The 6Gb/s ATTO R680 card, is the card validated with the ST8-U5, we know the ATTO support is excellent add to that the fact that our ST8-U5 gets RAID 6 real world performance of 830MB/s.
Please feel free to contact us if there’s anything we can do on our end to grease the wheels with Areca.
