Eli.
Are the SSD’s made/approved for being “striped”? I’ll guess not likely, (most aren’t).
If you don’t know, don’t do it, you’ll likely cause more harm than good.Jon Schilling

Mark,
This will sound like marketing BS, but it’s not.
External drive/box mfg test more drives than you know, extensively.
Firmware is then added per the product (in some cases)That being said, you’re best not to VOID any potential warranty, etc.
by only using drives the manufacturer approves.Ask Promise?

Jay,
You might want to check memory options & empty USB 3.0
drive enclosures from OWC https://www.macsales.com
as you want to do things on the cheap. Maxx should
be able to handle your drive enclosure needs but
CALL OWC for your Macs memory option upgrades, they’re
Known for them.Jon Schilling

Western Digital Enterprise 8TB drives would be recommended, but check with Qnap to see
What they suggest.Jon Schilling

QNAP boxes are known to be “low end” you get what you pay for.
As to SNS & what drives to use, you should contact SNS directly. The same can be said for QNAP & their boxes functionality.Storage sold unpopulated? I’d not recommend. You’re asking for trouble, quality manufactures will always & only sell populated product that’s been tested thoroughly.
No comment on Promax….

Stick with the RAID 5 & if you want more security, RAID 6.

My thoughts are unchanged & I’ve been dealing
With this question for years. You are playing with fire when you throw software RAID 0 on top of RAID 1 (giving you RAID 10). Of course you’re free to do as you wish but you asked
For opinions of Pros 😉Jon Schilling
