Hey Ruben,
You wouldn’t be able to share that product in the way in which you described. The best you could hope for is to “sneaker net” the drive between the 2 machines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sneakernet

Michael,
I think I overlooked the information pertaining to your box, I thought it was a dock or something…. Did you ask the istoragepro guys if they would send you a replacement chassis to try out? My guess is that the bridge-board inside the chassis is fried.

Michael,
Knowing who’s “box” you are using would help to understand possible solutions. I take it you tried all available I/O, inputs, on the “box” & it still didn’t mount?

Chris,
I’m with Proavio/Enhance Technologies. While it’s good to see that you went with the Areca 1882x card, we do not recommend using WD Caviar green drives in our arrays and using them would lend itself to poor performance. I’m going to check with our lead technician, Luis Rodriguez & I’ll have him follow up. You are of course free to call or email us as well.

I believe what you have (and I’m guessing) are 2 – 2TB Lacie rugged 3.5″ hard drives that you are looking to archive, correct? What kind of host machine are you hooked up to & what I/O, (interface) are you using? Are you looking to back up 4TB of data onto something else that you’re then archiving?

Ben,
The potential problem with Seagate drives is not with the drives, but the firmware. Some Seagate drives may not have the same firmware, drive to drive. You could potentially update the firmware for use with the system you’re using, controller card, etc, but that would require getting the firmware from Seagate & installing it, which requires a PC running in DOS.
In the end, you’re better off going the hassle-free route of using Hitachi drives.

Hey Ben.
I’ve never recommended “Green” drives in a RAID for the reason that was pointed out to you among others (namely reliability). I can’t say I’ve ever heard of Green drives being used in anything but the lowest end single drive enclosures.
Is FW800 the “BEST” choice in the machine you have? No.
You could go with mini-SAS, but you’d need to invest in a RAID controller to get speed and data redundancy, something like what we sell, EB400MS: https://www.proavio.com/eb400ms-mini-sas-desktop-raid-ready-storage.html, along with a Areca 1223X card which would afford you 450MB/s in RAID 5, if you had the budget & the expansion of an 8 lane or better slot available to you. Or you could also go with a EB800MS https://www.proavio.com/eb800ms-mini-sas-desktop-raid-ready-storage.html with that same Areca card & get 900MB/s read write in RAID 5, 800MB/s + read/write in RAID 6, but it all comes down to your budget, need for speed & available PCIe slots in your machine.People that use our products are very satisfied with the performance, protection & service that we provide.

Wes.
Have you tried contacting OWC directly on your issue? I’d do that as a 1st step. Make sure the drives you’re using are compatible with their enclosure.
