Noah, I’m not certain if I uploaded the screenshot properly. I suddenly got a message from Cow that I had successfully unsubscribed from this thread. What? I didn’t do that.
Anyway, I uploaded it twice. Maybe I did something wrong.
I include the link the second time…maybe that was it.Jonny Cates

Wow…this scares me Noah…
Not certain what you mean by the “right project timeline” but I started this edit out as just as a new project from the beginning.
I didn’t do anything special by selecting compound clips or setting any special parameters like that – if I understand that link you included.
“So if one missed setting these parameters at the beginning of a new project, one can’t come back and edit the project again like in FCP 6?? This seems like a dangerous aspect of FCP X.” This can’t be right can it?
These rolling credits were long and complicated to begin with….not to mention secondary camera angles. Seems like I’m screwed on this. I will have to re-edit a three hour production now which will take forever.
thanks Noah for the info…

Jeremy,
I actually edited this on my old 2009 iMac, in FCP 6 — pro res 422. I then output to a Quicktime file, then transferred that to my new iMac that has FCPX on it. I just started learning X, so I’m still in transition.
The 30 sec is for a local FOX station.
I havent done a commercial in a couple years or so, but the last time I did, I simply gave them an .mov file. They used it with no problem. However, the video then was shot standard def, 29.98 not in 24P High Def.
I don’t know what this station edits with, but in the past, .mov files have worked with the local stations around here–in this not so large market I live in.
I was just curious if there were any new standards concerning output of video files shot in 24p.
I also had some question about “field order” upper, lower, etc. for things shot in 24p, that was to be broadcast.
thanks!

John… your instructions are perfect. I did this. But….I left the computer and was not here to monitor it for the many hours it took.
Are you saying that at the end of the encoding, the program will ask me “Do you want to burn disc?”Since no one was around, maybe the program defaults to something else? There was already a blank blu-ray in the burner waiting.
I wasnt here, so maybe it thought I didn’t want to burn it?
Just guessing…Thanks again…

Jeff….I’m just not certain what i’m doing wrong.
In Compressor v4.1.3, I went to settings, and under create blu-ray – I dragged the little blueish arrow box icon to the add files section.
From there I can set all the parameters with audio, video. etc. I then set the final action to burn blu-ray.
Compressor went through about 5 hours of encoding. Most everything was set to automatic settings. I didn’t change the bit rate or anything. The final out put went from 157 gb to 21gb for a single layer blu-ray.
Still no burn.
In FCPX, I did use “SEND TO COMPRESSOR” to get this file into Compressor. The name of the video then appeared in the CURRENT window. That’s when I set all the blu-ray parameters by dragging down the folder “CREATE BLU-RAY” IN THE ADD FILE AREA as you mentioned. After encoding, it places an audio file and an H.264 in my MOVIES folder. Just no burn.
One NOTE; this 3 hour production was originally edited in FCP 6 on another iMac using FCP 6. That file was a 157gb Quicktime .mov file. I moved that finished .mov file to my new iMac where FCPX resides.
That shouldn’t cause anything weird would it? I have burned this same production using this new computer in the “SHARE” section of FCPX. It burns OK that way. I just wanted to use compressor to see how the particular work flow went, in case I needed to change things like bit-rate, etc.
Thanks again…

It looks acceptable now Patrick. I did add a stroke, and changed the opacity to 90%. I reads OK now. It’s not as smooth looking as a 29.98 frame rate, but smooth enough.
Thanks!

Well John, I did add a bit of color to it, and a stroke. I slowed it down just a tad more. I think it as acceptable now. Maybe not 100% perfect as if it were 29.98 frames, but still acceptable.
Thanks…

Patrick….
I went in and removed the drop shadow on the crawl per your suggestion, and I do believe it made a bit o’ difference….enough to warrant getting rid of it.The font is the color white, and needed a drop shadow (or something) to keep the letters from blending into some parts of the background…
so….question:
Is it advisable to change the color of the font to something else — so it would not blend into the background?
I’m not certain what color to use that wouldn’t be “jinky looking” on the eyes.
Any opinion?
Good suggestion on the drop shadow removal….it did seem to help.

Yes, I did do that John. And it did help some some, or at least it minimized the effect. It’s still basically there, just not as pronounced.
I thought about doing the titles in another sequence at 29.98 frames, outputting that to a Quicktime, then importing that at 24. Don’t know if that would smooth things out perfectly, or I’m not even certain what happens to the transparency on just a roll or crawl when imported by itself.
Type has to lay on top — of moving video in the background.
May have to live with it the way it is….thanks.

John… The only reason you might need to use Send to Compressor, is that Compressor has several more parameters and options that can be set such as bit rate, anti alias, cropping, etc. I’m not sure if those can be accessed with just Share….but I’ll double check….
