Compressor Question??

Make sure you’re using the right preset. It is possible to encode the files without burning the disc. I’m not in front of. FCPX right ow so I can’t tell you exactly what it’s called but you need to drag the actual folder, not the individual presets inside it.

If you have the right preset, yhe project will have an end action of burn blu-ray, and you’ll see the all the blu-ray burning options in the settings panel on the right

Did you use the Create Blu-ray option? You should have dropped the entire Create Blu-ray destination onto your footage. That will add both the video and audio processing. After it’s encoded you will be asked to burn it to disc.

Your job setup should look like this:

Jeff….I’m just not certain what i’m doing wrong.

In Compressor v4.1.3, I went to settings, and under create blu-ray – I dragged the little blueish arrow box icon to the add files section.

From there I can set all the parameters with audio, video. etc. I then set the final action to burn blu-ray.

Compressor went through about 5 hours of encoding. Most everything was set to automatic settings. I didn’t change the bit rate or anything. The final out put went from 157 gb to 21gb for a single layer blu-ray.

Still no burn.

In FCPX, I did use “SEND TO COMPRESSOR” to get this file into Compressor. The name of the video then appeared in the CURRENT window. That’s when I set all the blu-ray parameters by dragging down the folder “CREATE BLU-RAY” IN THE ADD FILE AREA as you mentioned. After encoding, it places an audio file and an H.264 in my MOVIES folder. Just no burn.

One NOTE; this 3 hour production was originally edited in FCP 6 on another iMac using FCP 6. That file was a 157gb Quicktime .mov file. I moved that finished .mov file to my new iMac where FCPX resides.

That shouldn’t cause anything weird would it? I have burned this same production using this new computer in the “SHARE” section of FCPX. It burns OK that way. I just wanted to use compressor to see how the particular work flow went, in case I needed to change things like bit-rate, etc.

John… your instructions are perfect. I did this. But….I left the computer and was not here to monitor it for the many hours it took.
Are you saying that at the end of the encoding, the program will ask me “Do you want to burn disc?”

Since no one was around, maybe the program defaults to something else? There was already a blank blu-ray in the burner waiting.

I wasnt here, so maybe it thought I didn’t want to burn it?
Just guessing…

Actually, if the disc was in the burner it may have not prompted and just burned the disc once the rendering was done. I just tried it without a disc in the burner and I got this prompt which tells me it was trying to burn:

meanwhile, make sure you’re using the latest version of compressor (4.2.1) and os x (10.10.5 for yosemite, 10.11.2 for el capitan)
