  • Thanks Warren…..but I didn’t have ‘export still image’ as you said, I only had export XML. Couldn’t find in the preferences how to add that in the pane. I’m still coming off an old version of FCP 6 (with no real major issues) and it’s been fairly easy to figure most things out. But kinda got stumped on this one…

What I ended up doing was writing a finished file of entire project. Using Quicktime Pro to view, you can ‘drag n’ drop’ your choices of still images on the desktop. I then used GraphicConverter to batch/modify and convert them all to PNG files. Then import that folder into the FCPX project. Long way around perhaps, but I felt it gave me better control vs. FCPX freeze frame feature….because I had several hundred stills to make. The freeze frame feature kept putting the still image into the timeline, and I didn’t want it there.

But now Im trying to find a way to change the default duration of the PNG still image. The default is 4 seconds, and I need a 2 second duration. You can change the freeze frame default duration in preferences, but that doesn’t affect a PNG or JPG image. I don’t want to change it in the time line because that will take forever due to the many images I have to deal with. I haven’t been able to find a place to change that default…. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

That great Darren. I hoping that it would be as simple as that.

    One question though:

I have some media files shot on an iPhone that was imported originally into the Mac OS App “Photos”. I cant figure out how to get those files into the media browser of FCPX. You can drag them from within FCP Photo access button on the R side, into the timeline directly, but you cant set in and out points. You have to drag the entire file.

Do you know how to get those files into the media browser so one can set in and outs?

    Thanks again!

James, thanks! I think you may be right.

I’m still somewhat new to FCP X (coming off of 6) and I’ve been a little rushed in the learning curve. Hasn’t been too hard…. just some confusion on exact understanding and management of Project, Events and Libraries. I seem to be stepping all over myself. And that’s probably where the problem originated.
I did discover another project with all missing files needing to be re-linked. Don’t know how that happened. It may have something to do with this perhaps.

But on this project, I think I had a name that was different due to a re-import of the project twice.
I couldn’t find that original edit at all, just a finished version all on one layer.
I must have done something wrong.

So I simply deleted the compression files on that project, output a 422 res, and set new chapters.
    It all worked then.

    Thanks so much again…

Well, Jeff… I’m a little confused. I can create a disc image — but I can’t burn a disc with Disc Utility. Even though my new iMac has no drive in it, an external burner won’t burn from a DMG file.

    I did find this:

    https://www.computerworld.com/article/2995962/mac-apps/6-disk-utility-changes-in-el-capitan.html

“But wonder why Apple would continue letting you create a DMG file, but take away any burning capability?

    thanks

Noah, I have spent a day looking for this edit….and nowhere to be found. I have several finished copies in the Final Cut Pro backups folder…but no edit. All the copies in the back up folder are the finished product copies.

One thing I didn’t mention, the fact that this project was originally edited on FCP 6 on another mac. I wrote a pro res file, and copied it to my new iMac to do the final titles and effects. All went well during all those procedures. No problems of course.

Oddly enough, I have a separate 30 second TV commercial that’s the same story. I can’t find the edit on it either. And both of these edits were burned to a DVD and a Blu-Ray using compressor. That certainly wouldn’t have anything to do with it.

I don’t know what happened, but apparently it had to be ME of course. I rent an office space alone, so no one’s ever in my office besides me. I dunno, maybe somebody hacked into my system or I got a virus? lol
Of all the horrible things that has happened to my edits in the old FCP world, I could always go back to the autosave vault in 6, and there a copy would be. I don’t know where else to look.

Thanks for your input. I’ll be more careful. Time to start this edit again…

Noah, I’m not certain if I uploaded the screenshot properly. I suddenly got a message from Cow that I had successfully unsubscribed from this thread. What? I didn’t do that.
Anyway, I uploaded it twice. Maybe I did something wrong, but I dunno what. I know how to upload files…
I may have forgotten to include the link.
