David…. Interesting enough, I’ve never done this in FCP as in other programs. I’m assuming this changes nothing in the timeline whatsoever, correct? Or will I have to go back in and re-set my user preferences or re do anything again?

Could you confirm the procedure as follows:

    Home/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data.
Delete FCP Preferences, FCP Obj Cache and FCP Prof cache

    Thanks again…

    Hi…
There is nothing in the filters tab at all. But I did discover one thing a few minutes ago when I got to the office; The end of this clip did not have enough handle on for a cross dissolve (as I so desired) so I did a long “smooth” fade out with the clip’s opacity line. I just key framed it and pulled it down into a slope. I discovered if I removed any of those key frames, it will render. But the moment I put a key frame on that specific clip and then render it, it goes into the negative. I would say that’s odd…
So I have simply removed all the key frames associated with that clip, and did something totally different as far as the transition goes.

I guess I could have deleted that clip from the time line, and set another ‘in and out’ point in the viewer to solve it. I just wanted to make certain that my my capture file had not gotten corrupt or something. Or something worse was about to happen. It seems to be fine as long as I don’t key frame any opacity points on that clip.

    John…
I think I answered this, maybe. I un-checked the other audio filters on that clip, and it now enables me to hear the audio changes I make. I assume that when I re-check all the audio filters, they will all render together. I guess this means that when you stack audio filters, only one can be checked in real time. Didn’t know that.

Thanks for you opinion, much appreciated. I bet your right about the gain being too hot for my camera. I believe I need a more sophisticated XLR adapter other than the simple one made by Canon. It has no controls on it.

I am, however, a little perplexed over one thing. I did open the compressor filter as you suggested, but the audio render line is now red, and I can’t listen to any of the slider changes unless I render.
“I don’t recall having to do this with the EQ filter?” I searched the FCP 6 manual – and found what I thought was the answer. Key framing a section along with enabling loop playback, sounded like this would let me to hear my changes in real time. Well, that don’t work.

I went into the preferences to see how many real time audio mixing tracks and changed that from 8 to 12 track. That didn’t help. I must have something not checked or checked wrongly? I’ll keep looking.
In the meantime, I will go to that audio group you suggest.

    Thanks…

August 24, 2010 at 6:52 pm in reply to: Timecode & Clip Question

    Well Chris…
I think I figured this out, but I don’t know how or why. I went to my capture scratch folder, and drug the clip out of the capture scratch folder onto my desktop. I then stuck it in the browser, and all 45 minutes showed up!
I then took the clip back out of the browser, and stuck it back into the capture scratch folder, and did the file, import thing as you said. It worked then. All 45 minutes now show up, where it wouldn’t before.
I guess it was still referencing the original time code break from the original log and capture? Only changed when it was taken out of that folder and put back again. Weird.

    Thanks again…

    Hey Chris,

Well, that did not work. I went to file, import, file…and it imported only the first 15 minutes again. But if I go and look at that file in the scratch disc folder, I can watch the whole 45 minutes from there.
What would happen if I took it out of the scratch disc folder, and dragged/dropped it in the browser?

If worse comes to worse, I guess I can throw the clip away and re-capture the whole tape again. But this time do it with a start-stop capture to make two separate clips. Hate to do that….
    Any more suggestion?

    I do appreciate the input…

    Jeremy…

Since this morning, I found a program that did it. Streamclip.
But the files I had were MPEG-2, AC3. I contacted ClipWrap, and they replied they did not support that format.
But Streamclip does work for this particular one, and apparently many other as well. I would recommend it to all.

    Go to https://www.squared5.com/
to get the free download for Mac OSX, Leopard, Snow Leopard, and also Windows.

    Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded ClipWrap….but when I import the files, it starts the conversion, but then says could not determine format. This message is happening with any program I use. I wanted to convert to Apple Pro Res 422. Could I be doing something wrong?
Thanks for the suggestion…it looks like good software. Seem to be easy to use too.

Hey Tom, that was it! That fixed it!
I can now see them all and am naming the rest of the start/stops.

Gee, I wonder what would cause the browser to do this?

    “off to editland now”

Anyway, thanks for the quick answer.
