    Hi again,
I have not been able to get a definitive answer on this. This is a question I posted a good while back, and got some suggestions that would seem to lead to a resolution, but did not.

I had someone help me shoot cutaways shots at a music festival on a Sony DCR-SR300 Hard Disc Drive Camera, and I shoot tape of course.
He said he would convert the files for me on his PC so I could use in FCP, but he lost his software.
He said one has to have the Sony software that comes with the camera, to be able to convert these to usable files.

The files are no longer in the camera by now, but are copied to my hard drive in a folder.
I can actually click on the files, and they will play in Quicktime, but with no sound.
I downloaded a program called iSquint that would seem to do the conversion. And I do believe all the files associated with each movie clip are in the folder. There is an mpg clip and an associated .modd file for that same clip. I have about 40 clips in all – totally 2gigs or so.

Well, the iSquint program did not work. It seem to at first, but half way through the conversion, I got a warning saying there was an unrecognized file…” continue or stop”, it says. I clicked continue just to see what happens. It seemed to work….but apparently not.

I then imported the files into the browser, and put them into the time line. They looked fine, until I do ANYTHING to them! If I even touch the clip in the canvas in any little way, it goes into an un-rendered state…and stays that way. If I try to render to fix it, it literally takes forever – but is never really rendered.
There must be a way to convert these to a usable codec as if it came from tape – without using the Sony software as I was told. I have never used the Log and Transfer method, but even it will not recognize the files or the folder in which they reside. I assume it will only recognize a camera or media stick?

Thanks again for any suggestions to all…

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded ClipWrap….but when I import the files, it starts the conversion, but then says could not determine format. This message is happening with any program I use. I wanted to convert to Apple Pro Res 422. Could I be doing something wrong?
Thanks for the suggestion…it looks like good software. Seem to be easy to use too.

What format are the original files, do you know?

    Jeremy…

Since this morning, I found a program that did it. Streamclip.
But the files I had were MPEG-2, AC3. I contacted ClipWrap, and they replied they did not support that format.
But Streamclip does work for this particular one, and apparently many other as well. I would recommend it to all.

    Go to https://www.squared5.com/
to get the free download for Mac OSX, Leopard, Snow Leopard, and also Windows.

    Thanks for your input!

    Yeah, MPEG Streamclip will work.

Clipwrap is more for m2t and HDV files wrapped in other wrappers that aren’t Quicktime.
