Hello Klaus,
Two quick questions. If you were to manually ramp up all of the settings to maximum, does this change the image at all? Or is it still identical? Second, what Host application are you using and which exact version of BCC?
Thanks,
Jon

October 16, 2014 at 7:11 pm in reply to: Does BCC Image Restoration Unit Work w/ RED 5.5Byron,
The BCC Units will be able to reside in an NLE aside RED, without the two conflicting, but none of the BCC Units, including Image Restoration, will plug into RED 5.5’s interface. Many of the plugs inside these Units are already inside RED 5.5, but the updated Unit versions cannot plug-into it.
As for your question, it might depend on which kind of clean-up you are conducting – for example, if you are going to try and remove wires or scratches, removing the grain could make these elements sharper for removal. However, if you are referring to general types of clean-up, such as Flicker Fixer, then I would recommend cleaning up the footage before removing noise or grain.
Thanks,
Jon

September 23, 2014 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Boris plugin for mouse pointer animation/effects and other screencast resourcesCarlos,
While there is no direct way to change the color of the ripple, there is a way to simulate it. Primarily, first you’ll want to change the ‘Light’ to a different color, and then, in the main controls above, increase the ‘Light Level’ slider. You can also clean up the distortion by increasing the ‘Height’ while decreasing the ‘Wave Width’.
As for your second question, we unfortunately don’t have anything quite like that, at least as of right now.
Thanks,
Jon

Just to confirm, you’re referring to the little animations that Camtasia does to signify a mouse-click during a screen-record? If so, BCC does have some effects that could be used, primarily the BCC Ripple (or maybe even the BCC Rays Ring, albeit it might be a bit dramatic). However, these effects would have to be added manually after the recording is done. If you are willing to lay the effects on the clicks afterward, I would suggest trying the trial for BCC OFX and trying those effects on your screen-capture.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Jon

Dewan,
I was able to get the particles to fill in the text following many of the same steps in the tutorial, but there were a few things that were different.
Primarily, you would only create a single layer of color text, and you will need to have the BCC Particle Array 3D effect applied to the text layer itself (appearing as a sub-layer), as opposed to the Particle Array 3D effect appearing as its own track in RED’s timeline, which it might be doing. Once I moved the effect into the Text layer and expanded it in the X and Y dimensions, I was able to use the text color to display a fill of the text with the particles.
If you have it set up this way and it’s not working, I can send you a copy of the .red file with this effect.
Thanks,
Jon

Tom,
Are you using the 64-bit version of RED 5, or are you using RED as a 32-bit program? In addition, which exact version of RED are you using, and what OS are you on? Lastly, do you think you can send me a copy of one of these PNG files? You can send it to support@borisfx.com – and you can put it to my attention (Jon). I’ll take a look at it and see if I experience the same problem.
Thanks,
Jon

July 24, 2014 at 8:55 pm in reply to: Is Boris Continuum Complete v9 able to create a map route animation?Carlos,
I tried to do this in FX10 but the sequential animation approach was not present. I’ll keep looking around in FX10 to see if this is possible using an alternative approach, but it might be exclusive to RED. If FX10 can do this, I’ll let you know.
Thanks.

You would be able to do it much easier with Boris RED. Boris RED has an interface of its own (which launches from inside Vegas, so it’s also a plug-in), and within it you can create the path using a series of Paint strokes, and then animate them to draw on.
I was actually looking to make a tutorial on this in the RED program (so I think I’ll do that soon), but essentially, there are two ways to do it in RED. Both involve numerous steps, but can be completed in minutes.
The first would be to launch RED with the Map in view, select the Paint tool, and, in a few strokes, draw over the desired path. Then, in the main Paint layer (each stroke will be represented as sub-layers, rather than main layers themselves), make sure that the ‘Reveal Order’ is set to ‘Sequential’, and keyframe the main Paint track so that, at the start of the clip, the ‘Strokes End’ is set to 0, and at the end of the clip, it’s set to 100.
The other method would be to draw a single primitive stroke from the start to the end (you can negate the road/course for the moment), highlight the ‘Paint Stroke’ layer (it’s the sub-layer of the Paint track) and enable a checkbox (off by default) that reads “Spline Path”. Then, using the Pen tool, you can add points to the paint stroke to reshape it to the design of the road. Then, as before, make sure the ‘Strokes End’ animates from 0 to 100.
Hope these help.
Thanks.

Sid,
If your Adobe were installed on your C drive, there would be a folder, representing your Adobe CS version, in this location –
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-insInside this folder (called ‘7.0’ if you’re using Adobe CC), there would be a MediaCore folder. Here is where the plugs for AE and Premiere Pro would install into.
If your Adobe is on your D drive, there might be one of these folders in the same location (except D:\ instead of C:\) – if so, you can try installing our plugs into there.
As for the option to select the install path, our products should have this ability in the ‘Custom’ install option.
Thanks,
Jon

Are you referring to the Blue Crosshair? In that case, what you would want to do is go under Preview > OpenGL Mode, and change it to ‘Off’.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
