May 18, 2010 at 6:56 pm in reply to: Interlacing/Progressive footage Boris Red nightmare in FCP7Inside the RED interface, go under Edit > Project Settings. Inside here, there will be 2 check boxes, one labelled as ‘Better Quality Field Rendering’, the other reading ‘1:2:1 Deflickering’. Generally, in particular for Vector Text, it is better to have both of these boxes checked; chances are that at least one of them is not checked by default. Once in a while, however, material renders better if one or both of these is Unchecked, so I would recommend first enabling both and re-rendering, and if the problem persists, to try toggling one or both.
On a side note, if your RED is set to either Half or Quarter in ‘Preview Resolution’, or Draft in ‘Preview Quality’, this can also contribute to this problem. Make sure that you have the Preview Resolution set to ‘Full’ and Preview Quality set to ‘Best’ when you Apply.

Molly,
What exact files are you trying to bring into Encore, and how exactly are you attempting to bring them in? Since you already made the titles, you could try exporting the completed titles as images (or movie files) and import those into Encore in place of titles. -
Jon,
The things you’d want to trash are the FCP Cache files, and the RED preferences. The folder you’d want to navigate to (with FCP closed), is here –
Macintosh HD :: Users :: [ Current User ] :: Library :: PreferencesInside here, delete the “Boris RED 4.3â„¢ Preferences” file, and possibly the “com.borisfx.app.Boris RED.plist” as well. Then, enter the folder called ‘Final Cut Pro User Data’ – inside there, delete the two files: “Final Cut Pro Obj Cache” & “Final Cut Pro Prof Cache”.
After this, relaunch FCP and it would be to good to test RED in an all new project, just to see if there’s a change.

Jaeson,
The idea of a Font randomizer is an interesting one indeed – I’ll pass this along.Thanks.

Jon,
Is this something that just started after some time, or is this something that’s been happening since you first created a RED transition in FCP? If so we can see about reloading the cache and preference files. Also, from your description, I presume the transition plays successfully if you preview the effect inside the RED interface? Thanks.

Dave,
You can also prompt this to launch by opening a file from the OS level called “wwhelp.htm”. On the Mac it’s located here –
Macintosh HD :: Applications :: Boris FXâ„¢ 9.3 :: Documentation :: wwhelp :: wwhimpl :: common :: htmlOn the PC it’s located here –
C:\Program Files\Boris FX, Inc\Boris FX 9.3\Documentation\wwhelp\wwhimpl\common\htmlOne last note – if you’re having difficulties opening the file itself, are you using FireFox as your default browser? If so, try opening it in Safari or Internet Explorer.

Eddie,
There is a page on the BorisFX website that shows all Supported and Unsupported FCP effects, and the Calligraphy effects are listed as Unsupported –
https://www.borisfx.com/XML-Transfer/XML_Transfer_105.htmI believe the main reason for this is because After Effects does not have any corresponding
plugs that Title3D effects can load into.
Thanks,

Steve,
The Comp size information does follow a .red file, as it’s part of the project settings. Are you using RED as a stand-alone program, or as a plug-in for another Host? I ask because if you are using RED as a plug-in for another host, the project setting information (such as size and frame-rate) would be dictated by the Host’s specifications. -
As William says, RED will adhere to what Premiere Pro is telling it (including duration), and there is no way to override this. The only exception to this is with Sony Vegas, and that’s because of nuances in compatibility with that particular host. I checked with SQA and this has always been the case. If you re-adjust the length of the comp in Premiere Pro’s timeline, RED should re-adjust automatically to compensate.

FX 8, I believe, should be able to install into and work with Premiere 6.5, but note that FX 8 is the last version that would work with that version of Premiere. As for the error, this shouldn’t prevent the software from launching. Is FX 8 able to launch as a stand-alone program? If it is, shoot me an email at support, as you will likely need a file to dis-engage the OpenGL in FX8, and I cannot give that to you here.
Thanks
